Safe Last Mile Delivery

Safe Last Mile Delivery

Transport, Logistik, Lieferkette und Lagerhaltung

Erasmus+ project working to develop the skills of workers in bike-based urban last mile deliveries.

Info

The fast-paced and exponential growth of e-commerce has placed new and unprecedented pressures on last mile deliveries. As demand for deliveries increases, significant inefficiencies within the urban logistics chain have been revealed, particularly regarding the environmental and social sustainability of the courier, express and parcel sector. Safe Last Mile Delivery is an Erasmus+ project that focuses on bicycle logistics, which is utilised for both ecological and economic reasons. It is estimated that as much as 50% of all motorised parcel deliveries can be shifted to bicycle logistics over the coming years, which is great news for transport sustainability within the logistics industry! But it is important to recognise that more bicycle traffic on the road can also lead to more bike-related accidents, especially if there are more low-skilled riders without previous experience now working within the sector. The aim of Safe LMD is to make last mile delivery safer and greener. To do so, we develop teaching and learning materials that are tailored to meet the needs of bike couriers and integrate them into existing formal and non-formal educational offerings.
