Yesterday I had the pleasure to attend the Automotive Visionary Forum at #ARENA2036 in Stuttgart - organized by Vodafone Business and DXC Technology. The focus of the event AI in the automotive production value chain and AI as part of a car. I learned a lot about what innovation is actually happening in China and how NIO is taking customer feedback on board to change the software of the car in an encredible fast way. NVIDIA showed also how to get #AI value in a right combination in the cloud and at the edge. Prof. Huber from #ARENA2036 shared inisghts on how to get AI actually on the road. One success factor is to start with small pilots and scale later. This is actually also the approach of Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden. Great event with the opportunity to exchange views with the automotive industry including Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Hyundai, Bosch, Continental, IAV, Nio etc. The Safer Transport for Europe Platform (STEP) was shown by Vodafone - which connects data from different car OEMs and road operators. In Dresden, we have a team in the GAIA-X 4 AGEDA project working on identity and trust as anablers for such a platform. Thanks to Eva Baumeister and team Janine Thiem for organizing the event! Recently, at the IEEE Consumer Communications & Networking Conference (CCNC) 2025, I presented our paper, "In-Network Computing for Object Recognition in XR Applications" A heartfelt thank you to my co-authors 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗲𝗶, 𝗣𝗵𝗗 and Jiajing Zhang, as well as the amazing teams at Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden and Technische Universität Dresden for their collaboration and support.   This is Sami S. from Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden at the “IEEE Consumer Communications & Networking Conference” (CCNC, https://lnkd.in/gJx7cuAc ) early in January.  This international conference brings together leading researchers, developers, and practitioners from academia and industry to present their latest research and advancements in consumer communications and networking. 💡 To build networks for the future, we need to understand the needs of tomorrow’s customers. Our aim? To improve customer experiences by: #Offloading compute to the network – enabling more lightweight and efficient devices. Offloading #AI model inference to the network – enabling faster responses and lower latency.   The paper, "In-Network Computing (INC) for real-time object recognition in XR applications", focuses on leveraging #AI within #6G networks to reduce latency and optimize bandwidth for real-time XR applications. This collaborative work, part of the 6G-ANNA project, was co-authored by Sami S. and Sina Shafaei, PhD from our team and Jiajing Zhang from Technische Universität Dresden. 🌐 As partners in the 6G-ANNA project with 30 leading organizations, we are defining the foundations of the next generation of mobile networks - always driven by focus on customer value and experience. Our paper on 𝘐𝘯-𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 (𝘐𝘕𝘊) 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭-𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘟𝘙 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 has been 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱 for 𝗜𝗘𝗘𝗘 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 & 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 (CCNC) 2025! This collaboration between Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden (TIC) and Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) is part of the 6G-Access, Network of Networks, Automation & Simplification (6G-ANNA) project, a BMBF-funded initiative shaping the future of mobile communications with cutting-edge 𝟲𝗚 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵. By integrating 𝟲𝗚 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 and 𝗔𝗜, our work demonstrates how 𝘐𝘯-𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 (INC) can minimize latency and optimize bandwidth, paving the way for 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗜-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗫𝗥 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. An intense but great week end of November: We hosted the project meeting of the 6G-ReS project in the Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden. A great opportunity to get together with all project partners to discuss the next steps to create resilient mobile networks for the society. A highlight between the two days of project meeting for sure was the 5G/6G Forum hosted by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) where we all had the chance to meet other projects working on improvements to our future mobile networks, getting in touch and discussing our ideas and bringing back new ones. I was particularly pleased to be invited to a panel discussion where I was able to discuss the future of mobile communications with other experts from the industry. End of November we had two events on cyber #security for mobile networks in here in #Dresden. 1) Vodafone hosted 30 people of the 6G-ReS  project at our office at Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden. This project, funded by the German Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI), aims to make #5G and #6G in the future more resilient and secure – especially for use cases such public safety and #railway operations using mobile operator networks. In this project, we work together with secunet Security Networks AG, Barkhausen Institut , Scontain, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. One topic for example 6G-RES is working on is a concept of  trustworthiness within un-trustworthy networks, like a cloud infrastructure . 2) The BSI organized the first 5G/6G forum on “Cyber Security and Digital Sovereignty - shaping security together” in Dresden. 170 Security experts discussed with the Bundesministerium des Innern und für Heimat, the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI) and others on how to make sure that services based on 5G and in the future 6G are designed in a way that they are secure, and how potential security issues can be fixed quickly. Professor Gerhard Fettweis from Vodafone Chair Mobile Communications Systems of TU Dresden gave the opening keynote about Trustworthiness within 6G and Jennifer Gabriel Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden was part of the panel and explained our Secure by Design approach. Other panelists were Andreas Mueller of Bosch, Dr.-Ing. Christian Bauer of Belden Inc., Frank Fitzek of TU Dresden and Henning Horn of 5G NRW. This was a great opportunity to get feedback from industrial customers on how they expect security in operator networks and 5G Mobile Private Networks. 🌐 6G-CampuSens Meeting at the Barkhausen Institut On December 3rd and 4th, 2024, the BI hosted a face-to-face meeting for the #BMBF-funded 6G-CampuSens project at our institute in Dresden. These regular gatherings are a key part of advancing research regarding trustworthy #6G networks. The project focuses on topics like Integrated Sensing and Communications (#ISAC) and O-RAN, addressing both their potential and the security challenges they bring. We thank all participants for their constructive discussions and look forward to continuing this important work together. Keeping Goods In Motion 🚀 Unter diesem Motto waren Vodafone Business und das Vodafone Tech Innovation Center Dresden beim diesjährigen Hightech Summit von bwcon zu Gast. Nach einer bewegenden Keynote von Professor Julian Nida-Rümelin hatte ich die Freude, gemeinsam mit Julia Wagner und Jessica Meyer unsere Workshops unter dem Thema "Mobilitätsanalysen und KI" zu moderieren. Unsere hoch motivierten Teilnehmer:innen entwickelten kreative Anwendungen, um Bewegungsströme und andere Daten mithilfe von KI für die größten Herausforderungen unserer Zeit einzusetzen. Danke vielmals für das tolle Event und die großartige Organisation, liebe Lisa Rothfuß und liebes Team von bwcon. Wir kommen gern wieder in 2025!

This is an example how innovative technology such as #XR in conjunction with reliable communications such as #5G can help businesses to be more effcient. Security Personell can navigate in complex buildings, cooperate as a team and has immediate access to critical information such as floor plans. Glasses for AR get much lighter and better every a few months - and smartphoness and tablets are also good devices to leverage #AR.
