  • How big of a role will #Chinese monopile suppliers play globally? Europe already has major monopile manufacturers, who excel in the industry with high-quality production and proximity to offshore projects. However, they face rising competition from Chinese suppliers offering high-volume, state-of-the-art facilities, own fleets for overseas transportation and potentially price competition on products delivered in Europe. Chinese monopile manufacturers benefit from large volumes at home, allowing them to scale production and compete globally. Chinese monopile suppliers have already entered four European markets, with more than 5 GW of fixed-bottom offshore wind projects sourcing monopiles from China. The majority comes from Dajin Offshore, while CWHI has secured orders that are currently under production.   How prominent could Chinese monopile suppliers become in the upcoming years? In Aegir Insights’ new analysis, available to our client, we examine the major Chinese monopile manufacturers and their potential to supply the European offshore wind market. • Supply chain opportunities and challenges in the Baltics Last week Aegir Insights’ Head of Supply Chain Victoria Maguire Toft and Market Analyst Signe Tellier Christensen joined industry leaders at the first International Baltic Sea Offshore Wind Summit in Gdańsk, Poland, hosted by BalticWind.EU. During a spotlight session on strengthening local offshore wind supply chains, Victoria shared key insights on global trends and Baltic-specific challenges: 🔹Installation vessels in high demand: Availability bottlenecks are a growing risk worldwide, impacting project timelines 🔹Building supply chain momentum in the Baltics: Executing on the existing project pipeline is essential to signal consistent demand and drive supply chain investment 🔹Better execution sequencing: Smoother project rollouts in Poland and the Baltic States would reduce risk and avoid supply chain cannibalization Unlocking the full offshore wind potential of the Baltic Sea requires regional collaboration, strategic investments, and supportive financial mechanisms. A well-coordinated approach will help bridge supply chain gaps, strengthen local capabilities, and accelerate Europe’s clean energy ambitions. • Cutting through the noise: What’s next for US offshore wind? The US offshore wind industry has been trying to navigate its new reality since November 2024, when Donald Trump, known for his dislike of offshore wind, became US president-elect once again. Since then, both encouraging and restrictive signals have emerged, making it difficult to assess what’s next. At Aegir Insights we have published a new analysis to our clients, analyzing these recent federal developments. Our report offers an independent analysis of the current state of US offshore wind, including project risks, the near-term outlook, and what these changes could mean for the pipeline. The offshore wind capacity that is certain to be completed includes 5 projects totaling 5.8 GW that have started construction. Additional ~5 GW could be built by 2030 as these projects have secured Construction and Operation Plan (COP) approval and offtake agreements, but the outlook for these remains uncertain. • #Poland’s offshore wind market is set to mature from zero to commercial-scale projects Poland is looking towards renewables to support its energy independence and the green transition, and the #Polish government is determined to invest in offshore wind. Although there is currently no operational offshore wind in Polish waters, the first project, Baltic Power (1.2 GW), is planned to have a commercial operation date in 2026, with a further +17 GW of fixed-bottom offshore wind projects in the pipeline. A series of support auctions is scheduled from 2025 and onwards, awarding offtake support for Polish offshore wind projects. The government ambition is to have a total capacity of 12 GW supported through several competitive auctions until 2031. Aegir Insights’ clients can get a comprehensive overview of the Polish offshore wind market with our new Market #Playbook, diving into Poland's green energy ambitions, project pipeline, supportive government regulation and future outlook of the market. • Value over volume? Navigating the global offshore wind reset After the land grabbing in the earlier 2020’s, the global offshore wind sector’s focus has shifted to value creation over sheer volume. The worst turmoil is expected to have passed, and cost levels have been stabilizing. The industry is poised for significant growth. Aegir Insights forecasts offshore wind capacity (excl. China) to double by 2030 and again by 2035, surpassing 200 GW — led by established markets. 2024 is setting a step into this direction, as a monumental year for offshore wind auctions: 🔹An impressive 80+ GW was awarded across more than 10 markets 🔹However, there has also been 20 GW+ which was not awarded due to lack of interest. These and many more insights Aegir’s Senior Associate Sebastian Kæmpe Hansen shared during his keynote last week at the 14th Asia Offshore Wind Day in Tokyo, Japan, reflecting on the global offshore wind market, while VP of Business Development Matthew Delany wrapped up the conference by moderating a high-level panel on the headwinds and tailwinds shaping the industry, and the outlook for offshore wind in Japan. Our time in Japan was short but filled with many valuable connections and conversations. A huge thank you to Edgare Kerkwijk and Asia Wind Energy Association for the invitation. Missed us at the event? Feel free to connect with Matthew or Sebastian to get Aegir Insights’ take on the status of global offshore wind and outlook for Japan. #offshorewind #floatingwind #energytransition #renewableenergy #asiawea2025 #14thasiaoffshorewindday

  • Is there a sufficient monopile supply chain to deliver on Europe’s offshore wind pipeline – even under a scenario of 20 MW+ turbine sizing? Aegir Insights’ latest analysis, done with Aegir #Quant, provides insights into almost 350 projects across 10 European markets, exploring different technology scaling scenarios and comparing them against current and announced supply chain capabilities. 🔹Turbine size: We evaluated projects having potential COD until 2035, and turbine size up to 22 MW. 🔹Monopile diameter: 99% of projects are predicted to have a monopile diameter of 15 m or below, while 79% of the projects have a predicted monopile diameter of 11 m or below. 🔹Conclusion: This simulation scenario indicates that several players will be able to technically meet project requirements with current and announced upgrades. Aegir Insights can provide early-stage estimates of monopile mass and diameters based on site conditions and turbine rotor size through #AegirQuant, the sector’s leading economic assessment solution. By combining Aegir Quant’s simulation capabilities with our market-leading datasets, we are helping key #suppliers and #governments determine the investments needed to keep Europe’s ambitious 2030+ offshore wind pipeline on track. Reach out to learn more about how Aegir Insights’ solutions and expert client support team can help you navigate sector uncertainty: https://lnkd.in/egxcvDZB Aegir Insights’ Foundation Order Book contains more than 1,600 datapoints including details on monopile weights, diameters and steel thickness.
