TALKING TO "SIRI" WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE 🏝️ A new algorithm allows even smaller devices like smartphones to decode speech without needing substantial memory - or internet access! The entirely new and unique code employs a clever strategy: it "forgets" what it doesn’t need in real-time. The algorithm was developed by our Professor Panagiotis Karras, together with speech technology researcher Nassos Katsamanis of the Athena Research Center, and researchers from Aalto University and Kungliga Tekniska högskolan. 🏆 FINALIST: Mød CO-RO CO-RO er den sidste af de tre finalister til Industriens Fonds AI-pris på 200.000 kr., som uddeles ved AI Denmark Summit i dag. CO-RO vil gøre det muligt at spore og nedbringe CO2-emissioner på tværs af virksomhedens værdikæde, hvilket understøtter bæredygtig produktudvikling og rapportering. CO-RO, der bl.a. står bag is-brandet Sun Lolly, har deltaget i et AI Denmark-forløb og fået rådgivning af eksperter fra Datalogisk Institut, Københavns Universitet - DIKU. Konkret er virksomheden gået fra en statisk model til beregning af CO2-aftryk til at have skabt en AI-dreven digital tvilling med henblik på beregning af fødevareprodukters CO2-aftryk i realtid.🤖 Med projektet har CO-RO skabt en platform, der kombinerer avanceret dataanalyse og maskinlæring for at reducere klimaaftrykket og styrke bæredygtigheden i fødevareindustrien.🌱 Hør virksomhedens analytiker William W. fortælle meget mere om projektet i videoen. Ambitious Danish language models are on the way! 🇩🇰💬 The Danish Ministry of Digital Affairs has allocated DKK 30.7 million to support the development of Danish language models through a groundbreaking project: Danish Foundation Models (DFM). This initiative brings together partners from Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, Aarhus Universitet, and the Alexandra Institute to advance the field of language models and language technology in Denmark. As part of the DFM consortium, DIKU will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Danish language models meet the highest standards for data integrity, transparency, and safe AI development. "I’m excited that DIKU will contribute to developing Large Language Models that conform with the EU AI Act and GDPR regulation. I see a great deal work ahead in the areas of data curation, model development, and culturally relevant evaluation. It is important for the DFM consortium to focus on developing fully documented open-source models, as this can drive local innovation and development in Denmark", explains Associate Professor Desmond Elliott, co-PI of the project. DFM aims to establish a robust R&D platform for training, fine-tuning, evaluating, and maintaining language models tailored to Danish-language needs. In the long term, this will ensure that Danish investments in AI are directed towards solutions that meet critical and specific needs in Danish society and promote sustainable development, ensuring a fair digital economy. Vi ønsker Jakob et STORT tillykke med den nye stilling og siger tak for de tre og et halvt år, han har stået ved roret på DIKU - samt for de 20+ år, han har været en del af instituttet. Først som studerende, sidst som institutleder. Vi glæder os til vores fortsatte samarbejde med IT-Universitetet, nu med endnu en stærk forbindelse!🤝 // The Department of Computer Science will have a new Head of Department.
