We’re thrilled to have had our debut Paris show this week presenting the GANNI SS25 collection. This marks an exciting new chapter for the brand, and we couldn’t be more proud of the team behind it all. This season, we showcased seven innovative Fabrics of the Future on the runway, each representing our ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries and becoming a more responsible version of ourselves as we are on a journey to reduce our carbon footprint by 50% in 2027 from a 2021 baseline. A special thank you to Laird Borrelli-Persson for the Vogue Runway review. Your words captured the heart of our vision. Read the full review here: https://lnkd.in/dcwZUH4P (https://lnkd.in/dcwZUH4P)

Tune in as Nicolaj Reffstrup and Lauren Sherman founder of the Fashion People podcast, discuss the journey of building GANNI, working with his wife and Creative Director Ditte Reffstrup, and insights from his new book, The GANNI Playbook. “For a while, we were trying to build a brand and build our business model on what other people had succeeded in doing throughout the years. But at some point we just decided to stick to our own ideas and try not to look too much towards others. And the same thing with sustainability or responsibility, as we like to refer to, we just kind of went our own way.” - Nicolaj Reffstrup, GANNI founder Catch the 'Cult of GANNI' episode now via the link below: https://lnkd.in/eJ6ePtPt

While I often talk about how degrowth is the answer to many of our problems in the fashion industry, I recently sat down with Nicolaj and Ditte Reffstrup, the cofounders of Ganni A/S, who offered me another perspective. Degrowth is a great idea, they say, but in practice investors will stay away from brands that don’t have a viable plan for growth — and degrowth brands will struggle to compete in the market economy. This will make it impossible to steal market share from real polluters like Shein, that are growing at record pace. Their solution instead is to be obsessive about building an environmentally responsible business. Six years ago, they developed an ambitious 44 point checklist of things to tackle including 👗Decarbonizing 👖Replacing toxic dyes in the supply chain with nontoxic alternatives (with one pair of boots, this was impossible, so Ganni simply stopped making them and lost $500,000 in revenue.) 👚Investing in new material startups that are significantly better for the environment Importantly, the LVMH-backed private equity firm L Catterton acquired a majority stake in Ganni, while allowing the brand to invest a significant chunk of its revenue into sustainability initiatives. Now it is scaling fast, edging out less sustainable brands. The fashion industry is overproducing at mind blowing rates. How we do stop this flood of clothes that is consuming valuable resources, spewing carbon into the atmosphere, and ending up in landfills? I’m not sure. Perhaps we need many different solutions. Whatever the case, I support businesses that are committed to reducing their impact as much as humanly possible.

WE PUBLISHED OUR 2023 RESPONSIBILITY REPORT! We’ve published our fifth annual Responsibility Report detailing the our ongoing commitment to sustainability as part of the second wave of our sustainability strategy, introduced last year - the 'GAMEPLAN 2.0'. This strategy centres on four main pillars: social impact, climate action & biodiversity, materials & innovation, and circularity & supply chain traceability. A guiding north star commitment for the GANNI is our vision of a 50% absolute carbon reduction by 2027 from a 2021 baseline, through its '7 by 2027' carbon strategy. Since 2021 GANNI has collaborated with Plan A, Europe’s leading carbon management platform as a third party to help provide data and audit the brand’s carbon reporting. As part of the 2023 report GANNI reported a 7% absolute reduction in carbon emissions from the 2021 baseline, marking significant progress in its environmental impact, considering the brand’s average annual financial growth rate of 18% since 2021. Adding to the achievement, this decrease is a 20% reduction from the brand’s 2022 carbon footprint, and marks an important tipping point for the brand, as it has successfully decoupled the size of its carbon footprint from business growth. “Despite the challenges 2023 has thrown our way, my optimism remains. We have a long road ahead, especially in the realm of circularity, but our commitment to pushing forward and making strides in our responsibility strategy is stronger than ever. This journey hasn't been easy. Frankly, it’s been a major relief to see our carbon progress because I’ve been championing this agenda at GANNI personally for years and urging others to invest in this space. Being deeply involved, I know firsthand how tough it is—the investment it requires, the unknowns we need to navigate, and the constant fear of not meeting expectations. It’s like building the plane while flying it; there are no guarantees. Yet, the grit and conviction we hold bring us to moments like this, where I feel energised by the achievement of our 7% absolute carbon reduction compared to a 2021 baseline. It’s a testament not just to our efforts but to what's possible for the wider industry. We need to continue on this path, proving that sustainable change is achievable,” - Nicolaj Reffstrup, GANNI Founder. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dwMmKA93
