🌱 We recently contributed to a series of crucial maritime trainings organised by the International Power-to-X Hub in Gandhinagar and Mombasa. These sessions, targeting key decision-makers from both the public and private sectors, delved into the regulatory, techno-economic, safety, and environmental aspects of maritime e-fuels. We were proud to lead the green shipping corridor module, sparking discussions on how India and Kenya can join the growing ranks of first movers in shipping decarbonisation. 🌊 India and Kenya, with their high hydrogen ambitions and significant maritime sectors, have unique potential to benefit from decarbonising the shipping industry. Stronger connections between the maritime and energy sectors are essential to unlock these benefits fully. We look forward to continued collaboration with the International Power-to-X Hub.

📢 Action needed to meet the growing demand for sustainable fuels on the Rotterdam-Singapore shipping corridor 🌱 By 2028, demand for sustainable variants of methane and methanol on this vital container route could reach 5 million tonnes per year. However, significant hurdles remain—namely, the affordability and availability of sustainable fuels. How can the maritime sector meet this growing demand and scale up? The publication “Demand potential for alternative fuels on the Rotterdam-Singapore Green & Digital Shipping Corridor” outlines the potential market for sustainable fuels from its partners and the conditions for making the transition to sustainable fuels on this route a reality. 🌊 This week, our team and key members and partners from the Getting to Zero Coalition have been closely following the 17th Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships meeting at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). As we approach the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 82) this coming Monday, critical discussions are underway about the measures needed to achieve the IMO's 2023 revised greenhouse gas strategy for the shipping industry. With many questions still open, the Coalition is working hard to support an ambitious outcome. In early September, the Getting to Zero Coalition hosted a workshop with 40 industry participants, discussing how different policy scenarios affect business cases for zero-emission shipping. Building on this, we held a public-private workshop yesterday that brought together over 25 participants, including policymakers from various regions and industry representatives from across the value chain, to dive deeper into some key details of the measures like surcharges for non-compliance, eligible fuels, and revenue disbursement mechanisms. The path ahead is complex, but we’re committed to driving scalable solutions for zero-emission fuels and sustainable shipping through collaboration and engagement. 🌱

🚢🌍 Today is #WorldMaritimeDay, a day to recognise the importance of safety at sea in an era of rapid transformations and emerging risks. This year’s theme, Navigating the Future: Safety First, emphasises that safety must be at the heart of progress in the maritime industry. In the video below, Susanne Justesen (ph.d) from the Global Maritime Forum shares insights from our recent report on seafarer well-being, which was inspired by the learnings from our Diversity@Sea pilot. Key findings include: ✅ A zero tolerance policy for abuse, bullying, and harassment ✅ The importance of inclusive personal protective equipment for all bodies ✅ Improving Wi-Fi access and social connectivity ✅ Support for parents at sea and transparent appraisal systems. Safety must come first in maritime operations, from onboard procedures to crew welfare. Check out the video below and the full report to understand what we believe are critical areas for meaningful change to safeguard both seafarers and global supply chains. https://lnkd.in/dndsbmuJ
