Our Flexible Work Policy offers Hempel A/S colleagues the flexibility to thrive at home and at work 💙 We believe that flexible work should be tailored to each employee's specific needs and circumstances. For example, flexibility in work schedules could accommodate a later start for the school run, or an earlier start for days when there are meetings with colleagues and customers in other time zones 🌏 🎙️ Meet Patricia Ferrando, Scientist at Hempel in Spain. As a mother of two teenagers, an 18-year-old and a 13-year-old, Patricia’s days are filled with family responsibilities alongside her work in the R&D lab. Patricia started at Hempel four years ago. She and her manager discussed a flexible work arrangement where Patricia spends part of the day in the lab and completes the rest of her work from home. This flexibility allows her to be present for her youngest son and support him in his daily routines when he gets home from school. “It’s an incredible opportunity to be present during such a crucial time in my son’s life,” says Patricia. “When he comes home, we have lunch together and I listen to him talk about his day, the typical conflicts teenagers face and the changes he’s experiencing. Since the pandemic, there has been a notable increase in mental health issues among teenagers in our society. I aim to prevent this for my children by being available and offering my support.” 🎯 Finding a free spot on a teenager’s agenda is a challenge for any parent, so lunchtime is a valuable opportunity for Patricia to enjoy spending time with her son. Furthermore, having the possibility to know that things are under control provides more than just peace of mind for Patricia. “It allows me to focus on what truly matters - making sure my son is eating well, looking over his agenda, having a conversation and then returning to work,” says Patricia. “I’m grateful to Hempel for this opportunity, and so is he.” #FutureOfWork #HybridWork #WorkLifeBalance 📷 In the photos: Patricia with Hempel colleague Mari Carmen Zamora, Senior Lab Technician, during their visit to Yantai, China to follow trials of marine antifouling coatings. • With more than 25 years' experience in the wind energy industry, Rasmus Ilum Nielsen, Technical Commercial Manager (Blades) at Hempel A/S has witnessed the remarkable growth and evolution of this dynamic sector.   From the early days as a service engineer at a global wind turbine manufacturer to working in wind turbine R&D, Rasmus has developed a passion for innovation and problem-solving. Today, he provides technical and commercial support to our global sales team, specialising in wind turbine blades. We caught up with Rasmus before he takes off for the American Clean Power Association (ACP) Operations, Maintenance and Safety Conference, to learn more about his career journey and his role at Hempel. H: How did you get into the coatings industry? R: Over the past eight years, my focus has been on blade-related activities, with a particular emphasis on leading-edge protection (LEP). This experience led me to specialise in protective coatings for blades, which brought me to Hempel. H: What attracted you to join Hempel? R: Hempel’s innovative blade coating products, which have undergone extensive validation, were a major attraction for me. I am excited about the opportunity to develop this market, as I believe these products align perfectly with the current challenges in the blade industry.   H: Who are your customers and what are their challenges? R: We work closely with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and service and maintenance customers to protect their wind turbine rotor blades from rain erosion.   Rain is extremely damaging for wind turbine blades - especially the leading edge. It causes erosion, reduced aerodynamic properties and less energy generation.   This significant industry challenge demands high-performing LEP coating systems and robust technical service, alongside local support during field projects.   H: How are you supporting customers to meet these challenges? R: Our customers benefit from strong support and a consistent presence in their business operations. My role is to assist and guide them to maximise the effectiveness of the products they have qualified and integrated into their processes. This support helps enhance their competitiveness and reduces downtime and production losses for turbine owners.   H: What’s in store for the rest of 2025? R: In March, Hempel will be exhibiting at ACP’s Operations, Maintenance and Safety Conference, where I look forward to reconnecting with our customers.   My main goal for 2025 is to introduce as many customers as possible to our Hempablade Edge 172 LEP coating system and help them gain valuable field experience with it. I'll be introducing this product at the exhibition, which should be an exciting opportunity.   H: Thank you, Rasmus! 📅 Meet Rasmus and the Hempel team at the American Clean Power Association (ACP) Operations, Maintenance and Safety Conference (OMS) in Nashville, TN, USA, 3-5 March in the Ryman Exhibit Hall, Booth 701. #OMS25 #ProtectiveCoatings #WindEnergy
