Highview Power’s long-duration energy storage project wins Market Impact Award Europe! We are proud to see Highview Power win the Market Impact Award Europe at the IJ Global Awards – a well-deserved recognition of their pioneering work in long-duration energy storage. Highview Power is part of KIRKBI Climate’s portfolio of investments and activities aimed at addressing global climate issues. In 2024, we joined a £300M investment syndicate to support Highview Power in developing one of the world’s largest long-duration energy storage facilities, in Carrington, Manchester. Set to become operational during 2026, this project will provide the grid stability needed to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and replace fossil-fuel plants in the long term. The facility will be using liquid air energy storage technology, which can store renewable energy for weeks at a time – helping secure a more resilient and sustainable energy future. Congratulations to Highview Power on this milestone achievement! We are proud to support innovative companies leading the way in energy transition.

Celebrating a milestone 🏡 The topping out ceremony is a long-standing Scandinavian tradition. Celebrating craftsmanship and recognizing the people behind a successful build. This week, we reached this important milestone for Travbyen – a signature project for KIRKBI and Billund as the Capital of Children. All project partners were invited, contractors, consultants, even the local kindergarten and the International School of Billund who helped us in the early co-design phase. Travbyen aims to create a unique neighborhood designed around community, room to play, and balanced living, with the first homes ready second half of 2026. With sky-high sustainability ambitions, the project is pushing to reach the lowest possible carbon footprint – among others by building with new materials like timber, clay and straw. Our biggest thank you to the workers and our many project partners for embracing the challenge - and sharing the ambitious vision 🌳 🎈 🏡 To learn more: www.travbyen.dk

We're supporting innovative technologies for a greener future. Together with the LEGO Group, we have signed agreements with ClimeFi and Climate Impact Partners to expand our portfolio of carbon removal initiatives. In partnership with ClimeFi, we purchased engineered carbon removal credits from leading biochar and enhanced rock weathering solutions that use natural processes accelerated by innovative technologies to capture and securely store carbon. In addition, we procured nature-based carbon removal credits through our collaboration with Climate Impact Partners in support of a large-scale reforestation project in the United States. This project helps contribute to the restoration of critical ecosystems, removing carbon from the atmosphere while aiming to deliver benefits for both nature and biodiversity. These agreements build on our existing partnership with Climeworks that captures and stores carbon using direct air capture and storage technology. At KIRKBI, we remain committed to learning about impactful and effective ways to remove carbon from the atmosphere through both engineered and nature-based solutions. By supporting high-quality projects and pioneering technologies, we aim to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future, complementing our primary focus and efforts to reduce emissions. Good news for the roll-out of renewable energy! Adapture Renewables, Inc., a utility-scale solar and energy storage developer, owner, and operator owned by KIRKBI A/S, has completed its 67 MW utility-scale solar project in Texas, U.S. The solar facility, called Signal Ranch, is expected to deliver approximately 120 GWh of renewable electricity annually – enough to power the equivalent of 12,500 US homes. Since KIRKBI’s initial investment in Adapture Renewables in 2019, significant steps have been made to increase operational capacity and build a solid pipeline, and this latest project adds to Adapture Renewables’ growing portfolio, which now comprises over 344 MW of operating renewable energy projects across the U.S. and a development pipeline exceeding 4 GW. Adapture Renewables is part of KIRKBI Climate’s portfolio of investments and activities aimed at addressing global climate issues. KIRKBI Climate currently manages climate investments of approx. DKK 8 billion and has an aspiration to invest up to an additional DKK 10 billion over the next five years.

From shrimp shells to sustainable solutions: KIRKBI invests in Tidal Vision We are happy to announce our investment in Tidal Vision, a US-based company that is pioneering the production and application of chitosan, an extraordinary biopolymer derived from crustacean shells (such as shrimps). This remarkable material has the potential to replace synthetic chemicals, including virgin plastics, across various industries. Founded in 2015, Tidal Vision has developed a cost-effective and environmentally friendly chitosan extraction process and combined that with leading formulation technologies to advance chitosan-based solutions in large-scale critical industries. By creating biodegradable materials and chemistries, Tidal Vision focuses on replacing harsh chemicals with chitosan-based solutions in water treatment, agriculture, and biomaterials like plastic. This investment aligns very well with KIRKBI’s commitment to driving impact in two of the biggest global climate challenges: climate change and pollution from non-sustainable materials.

In 2022, KIRKBI established Land Sustainability as an investment area with an ambition of planting up to 10,000 ha production forest in Denmark. Two years later, close to 3,000 ha of agricultural land has been acquired and the first trees are thriving on the 280 ha planted so far.🌳 By using wood for building materials, the sequestered CO2 is stored long-term, offering an alternative to the more CO2 heavy building materials. As part of an article series on forestry projects, Børsen visited Billund to learn more about the project and how Peter Vind Larsen and the team work with tree species, biodiversity measures, CO2-uptake, wildlife management and much more as part of the project.
