🌊𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐲𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝: 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐝, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐨! 🌬️ As part of Equinor's Hywind Scotland Heavy Maintenance programme, the fourth (HS4) of five floating turbines undergoing maintenance has been successfully repaired, towed back to site, and reconnected yesterday, as of 8th of September 2024. Sea Impact analyzed that turbine HS4 has been towed to port on the 19th of July by three Anchor-Handling Tug Vessels and remained moored at Wergeland Group's Base in Norway for a total of 43 days for repairs. HS2, HS3, HS5 and HS4 are now fully reconnected on site and spinning, while HS1 still remains moored in Norway for repairs and is expected to be towed back soon. The floating project features five 6MW machines from Siemens Gamesa, mounted on spar floaters. 🌬 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟-𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤-𝐔𝐩 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 - H1 2024 The first half of 2024 saw a record-breaking 241 jack-up interventions, marking an increase of 21% compared to 2023. This period was largely dominated by O&M-focused vessels, with only six interventions carried out by installation vessels. 🔹 ZITON A/S once again leads the market with 110 interventions across their fleet of five vessels. 🔹 Van Oord’s O&M unit, MPI Offshore, secured the second spot, with their O&M-focused vessels MPI Adventure and MPI Resolution carrying out 60 interventions. 🔹 ATHELEON conducted 37 interventions using their two vessels, with Thor handling turbines ranging from the Siemens Gamesa SWT-2.3-93 to the Vestas V164-9.5. 🔹 Gulf Marine Services PLC's GMS Endeavour completed 22 interventions under a contract with Ørsted, servicing seven different wind farms, all featuring the SGRE 3.6/4.0 MW platform. 🔹 Eunsung O&C carried out six interventions in South Korea. 🔹 Cadeler completed six interventions using their WTIVs Wind Scylla and Wind Osprey between installation tasks. Overall, ten O&M-focused jack-ups were active in the first half of 2024, with all these vessels operating at near full utilization. With the growing demand for O&M jack-ups, vessel availability is becoming an increasingly critical challenge. Here's a snapshot of the global jack-up vessel action: 🗓️ Global Activity: ▪ Installation activities took place in seven countries across Europe, Asia, and North America 🚢 WTG Installation Campaigns Launched: ▪ Seaway7's new-built jack-up Seaway Ventus embarked on her first-ever installation campaign at Ørsted’s Gode Wind & Borkum Riffgrund 3 ▪ Cadeler’s Wind Osprey returned to action with her first campaign after a significant crane upgrade ▪ Sister vessel Wind Orca initiated the turbine campaign at Moray West, installing the first Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines ▪ Wind Scylla ventured across the Atlantic for her first U.S. activity at Revolution Wind 🌏 APAC Action: ▪ Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s Bold Tern had a busy time in Taiwan, completing the WTG campaign at Changfang & Xidao, installing the last turbines at Greater Changhua 1 & 2a, and kicking off the WTG campaign at ZhongNeng ▪ Shimizu Corporation -Japan’s Blue Wind played a key role in completing the monopile campaign at Yunlin ▪ Penta-Ocean Construction Company Limited’s CP 16001 continued the foundation campaign at Kitakyushu Hibikinada ▪ Hyundai Frontier installed monopiles at Jeonnam 1, with turbine installation on the horizon Note: This overview focuses on jack-up vessels primarily involved in the installation phase of offshore wind. 🌬 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟-𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - H1 2024 Siemens Gamesa OEM remains on top for this half year of 2024 with a total of 127 units installed, largely ahead of Vestas and GE Renewable Energy. It installed units across their 7-MW, 8-MW, 11-MW and its new SG 14.0-222 Direct Drive turbines in EU, US and APAC regions. Vestas flagship V174-9.5 offshore turbine has been the most installed of all turbine platforms during this half-year with 55 units installed across Taiwanese projects CFXD, ZhongNeng & German project Baltic Eagle. At third place comes GE Renewable Energy with a total of 32 units of its Haliade-X 13 platform installed across Dogger Bank A & Vineyard Wind 1 projects. Sea Impact analyzed that turbine HS2 was towed to port mid-May by three Anchor-Handling Tug Vessels and remained moored at Wergeland Group's Base in Norway for a total of 51 days for repairs. Satellite images showed that the unit has had the nacelle and blades down during the Port-stay. HS3 & HS5 are currently still moored in Port and undergoing repairs, while HS4 just arrived in Port after being towed end of last week. The floating project features five 6MW machines from Siemens Gamesa, mounted on spar floaters. EU also saw the first installation of the new SG 14-222 platform from Siemens Gamesa. 🎉 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬: Q2-2024 has seen a significant increase in fixed-bottom MCR compared to past years, particularly in the 6MW+ turbine segment. 📈 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬: The first US-built SOV Eco Edison from Edison Chouest Offshore saw first activity on site at South Fork Wind in the US. 🌬️ A Recap of 2023: Heavy Lift Vessel Activity in Offshore Wind! Last year witnessed a flurry of activity in the offshore wind sector, a snapshot of the action: 🗓️ Global Activity: ▪ Offshore wind installation activities spanned twelve projects across Europe, Asia, and North America. 🚢 New-Built Vessels: ▪ 2023 marked the inaugural installation of three new-built vessels: Jan De Nul Group’s Les Alizes, Seaway7’s Alfa Lift, and CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering’s Green Jade. 🏗️ Other Highlights: ▪ Seaway7 sold Seaway Yudin marking the end of the era for the vessel in offshore wind ▪ Van Oord’s Svanen is on the other hand seeing a crane upgrade to handle the next generation of monopiles ▪ Two semi-submersible crane vessels were highly active in offshore wind (Saipem 7000 and Heerema Marine Contractors' Thialf) Note: This overview focuses on heavy lift vessels involved with offshore wind installation in 2023.
