The Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator took the stage at Techne Summit 2024 in Alexandria, Egypt! Techne Summit is an international, multi-industry investment and entrepreneurship event. UNDP Egypt participated in dynamic panel discussions, while companies from the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator pitched their business ideas to potential investors, opening up opportunities for growth, networking, and promoting Egypt’s green economy. It was a platform for fostering entrepreneurship and advancing sustainable business ideas. For example, 'Al-Fares for Agricultural Development' uses plant tissue culture technology to produce disease-free plants and active ingredients efficiently. Meanwhile, 'Jadeed' focuses on sustainable energy solutions to reduce carbon emissions and increase environmental awareness. The Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator is a UNDP initiative - part of the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark implemented in partnership with Flat6Labs. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” That’s how Henrik Fredborg Larsen, Director of the UNDP Nordic Office, opened the second day of the OECD - OCDE Local Development Forum 2024 at UN City Copenhagen. The event brought together around 300 participants from across the globe. A special thanks to the OECD and Greater Copenhagen teams for the wonderful partnership! The challenges we face today cannot be addressed in isolation. During the Forum, we explored how to go further, together, by uniting local actions with global ambitions. Panel discussions covered topics on bridging innovation and inclusion, and we heard keynote speeches from, among others, Morten Dahlin, Danish Minister for Cities and Rural Districts, Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs and Minister for Nordic Cooperation, and Karen Ellemann, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers. During the Forum, we held a deep dive session in which UNDP presented two companies from the Green Growth Job Accelerator, part of the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme: Jodoor from Morocco and Studio Raa from Jordan. The session discussed youth in just transitions and how young and innovative companies in the Arab region can drive green growth and support job creation. Jodoor aims to provide a robust, inclusive, and prosperous infrastructure for the agriculture of tomorrow. Studio Raa offers unique and customized production for business merchandise. These two female-founded enterprises showcase how women and youth can lead the way in a just transition. In essence, the OECD Local Development Forum 2024 emphasized the power of coming together to achieve sustainable change. With inspiring discussions, innovative ideas, and the shared experiences of participants from across the globe, it became clear that the future we seek is one of collaboration, shared vision, and collective action. By harnessing the creativity of young people, the resilience of communities, and the strength of partnerships, we can truly go further than we ever imagined. “I am an optimist, and I am a hopeful person. I honestly believe and genuinely believe we just need to rethink and reimagine how finance works”. Listen to Sebnem Sener from UNDP’s Sustainable Finance Hub, who gives an analysis of the vast financial gap preventing the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) by 2030 in a recent episode of the podcast “The Do One Better!”. Sener explains in the episode, the central role of the UNDP’s Sustainable Finance Hub in mobilizing private capital to where it is most needed. For Sener, the solution lies in rethinking how businesses operate, ensuring sustainability is at the heart of decision-making processes. This notion also drives the UNDP’s work with the private sector by supporting, for example, the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator, part of the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP). The initiative supports the green and sustainable growth of small and medium enterprises in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan to help creating jobs for women and youth. Check out the podcast episode here to learn more about how sustainable finance supports the SDGs: Sebnem Sener, Head of Private –Do One Better with Alberto Lidji in Philanthropy, Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship – Apple Podcasts Alberto Lidji; Sebnem Sener; UNDP in the Arab States region; UNDP Jordan; UNDP Egypt; UNDP Tunisia; #UNDPMorocco; Stine Kirstein Junge; Kurt Mørck Jensen, Camilla Bratsbjerg, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

And the winner is...Sustainability! For the fourth year in a row, the Dansk Erhverv and EY hosted the Sustainability Awards, which were held last Tuesday in Copenhagen. The Sustainability Awards is rewarded to Danish companies’ efforts to create value in society and to establish good and exemplary practices in the field by incorporating the Sustainability Development Goals (#SDGs) into their business models. Four winners were announced during the event. The Climate Change Award went to DSB, the Environment Award was presented to KOMPAN Danmark, and Vestas won the Value Chain Award. Ørsted was able to accept the special award for Long Term Value Creation. UNDP's Stine Kirstein Junge was part of an independent jury of the Sustainability Awards and handed out the Environment Award to this year’s winner Kompan. Globally, UNDP assists numerous companies in embedding the SDGs into their practices. As an example, we are supporting the green and sustainable growth of small and medium enterprises in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan through the Green Growth Job Accelerator Project (GGJAP), part of the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP). UNDP was proud to be part of reviewing the progress made in the Danish private sector and how business goals and SDGs go hand in hand. By recognizing and celebrating these efforts, we aim to inspire even greater commitment to sustainability across industries. What is the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator, and how are UNDP and the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP) working with the private sector to address the challenges outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? These are just some of the questions we’ve discussed with young attendees at Ungdommens Folkemøde (Youth Democracy Festival) in Copenhagen, where we have been present alongside DAPP and other DAPP partners over the past two days. Engaging with young, innovative, and ambitious individuals about the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator always brings fresh perspectives and sparks insightful discussions on shaping a sustainable future. The DAPP is Denmark’s development cooperation initiative with the Middle East and North Africa. Since 2003, DAPP has promoted human rights, equality, and job creation in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan. The Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator, an initiative by UNDP under DAPP, supports the green and sustainable growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, with a focus on creating jobs in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan. One of the examples from the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator that we’ve presented at the festival is Kangaroo from Jordan. Kangaroo is a logistics company specializing in domestic and international delivery services across the country, from north to south.
