Driving job creation for women and youth in the Arab States! We are excited to announce that the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator has launched its first four accelerator cohorts across Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan. Smart irrigation systems, extraction of essential oils and medicinal plants, and AI-driven waste management incentives. These are just some of the solutions being developed by the companies selected for the newly launched Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator. Over the next five months, we’ll work with 91 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the four countries driving sustainable growth and creating jobs for women and youth. The Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator is an initiative by UNDP part of the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. UNDP colleagues recently gathered for a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Impact Measurement and Management (#IMM) on how to guide small and medium-sized enterprises (#SMEs) to plan, measure, manage and communicate the impact of their business on people and planet as part of the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator Programme (#GGJAP). This Training of Trainers marks the beginning of an accelerator journey involving 800 SMEs across #Morocco, #Tunisia, #Egypt, and #Jordan. The goal of the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator Programme is to integrate sustainability and enhance SMEs’ contributions towards achieving the #SDGs, ultimately generating green jobs for women and youth. By embedding Impact Measurement and Management into Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator Programme, UNDP is igniting a transformative process aimed at achieving long-lasting sustainable economic development, helping SMEs align with global sustainability standards, and boosting their competitiveness in the global market. يعد مستشفى غيل باوزير شريان حياة لأفراد المجتمع في غيل باوزير، وهي قرية تبعد حوالي خمسة وأربعين كيلومترًا شمال شرق المكلا في محافظة حضرموت باليمن. لسنوات عديدة، واجه موظفو المستشفى تحديًا هائلاً يتمثل في تلبية الاحتياجات الصحية الهائلة للمجتمع المحلي بموارد محدودة للغاية. كانت غرفة العمليات الوحيدة المكتظة بالمستشفى انعكاسًا صارخًا للأزمة الأوسع نطاقًا، مما أجبر المرضى على اتخاذ خيارات مؤلمة بين البحث عن الرعاية الطبية الأساسية وتحمل مخاطر السفر  اغتنمت السلطات المحلية في غيل باوزير الفرص التي أتاحها مشروع تعزيز المرونة المؤسسية والاقتصادية في اليمن التابع لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي، والممول من الاتحاد الأوروبي بعد أن أدركت الحاجة الملحة للتحرك وانقاذ المستشفى تم تزويد المسؤولين المحليين بالأدوات والمعرفة اللازمة لتحديد الاحتياجات المجتمعية الملحة وتطوير استراتيجيات للتعافي من خلال سلسلة من دورات بناء القدرات التي ينفذها المشروع، وبرزت القدرة الجراحية المحدودة لمستشفى غيل باوزير كأولوية قصوى وبفضل المهارات اللازمة لتحديد وإدارة أولويات المجتمع المحلي، نجحت السلطات المحلية في تأمين التمويل من صندوق المرونة والتعافي المحلي التابع لمشروع تعزيز المرونة المؤسسية والاقتصادية في اليمن لإعادة تأهيل وتوسيع غرفة العمليات في المستشفى https://lnkd.in/dVQAMrwe Ghail Bawazir Hospital is a lifeline for community members of Ghail Bawazir, a village about forty-five kilometers north-east of Mukalla in Hadhramout Governorate, #Yemen. For many years, hospital staff faced a daunting challenge: meeting the overwhelming healthcare needs of the local community with very limited resources. The hospital’s single, overstretched surgery room was a stark reflection of the broader crisis, forcing patients to make agonizing choices between seeking essential medical care and enduring the risks of travel. Recognizing the urgent need for action, local authorities in Ghail Bawazir seized the opportunities presented by UNDP Yemen ’s Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen (SIERY) Project, funded by the European Union. Through the project’s capacity-building initiatives, local officials were equipped with the tools and knowledge to identify pressing community needs and develop strategies for recovery. Ghail Bawazir Hospital’s limited surgical capacity emerged as a top priority. Empowered with the necessary skills to identify and manage local community priorities, local authorities successfully secured funding from the Local Resilience and Recovery Fund (L2RF) of the SIERY Project to rehabilitate and equip the hospital’s surgery room. This initiative is a testament to the growing capacity of local institutions to drive development by taking ownership of challenges and implementing locally driven solutions. https://lnkd.in/dtgMuNfA
