Public procurement can be a powerful tool to promote sustainable economic growth, fairness and inclusion. Today, on World Day for Decent Work, we’ve launched a new report that explores how governments and procurement professionals can leverage the purchasing power of public procurement to foster productive employment, safe work environments, and social protection. The report offers practical insights on integrating decent work principles into procurement policies and processes, emphasizing the need to support small and medium-sized enterprises, create job opportunities for disadvantaged groups, and prevent human rights abuses, such as child labor and forced labor. “Public procurement is a powerful agent that can create decent work for all – promoting social inclusion, fairness, and value for money,” says our Director of Procurement, Anne-Claire Howard   Read more and download the report: https://bit.ly/3BwW19E | #SDG8

By enhancing the way we work with implementing partners around the world, we can better support governments and communities to advance the #SDGs and promote an equitable future. This week, representatives from across the United Nations are coming together at UN City Copenhagen to explore that and more, during a series of sessions hosted by UNOPS. “We earn the trust of those we support by caring about what they value, and by delivering on our promise to always act in the service of people in need,” said Sonja Leighton-Kone, our Deputy Executive Director, as she opened the week of dialogue.

Regional Director - UNOPS Asia Region at UNOPS

Standing on stage at The Rockefeller Foundation AsiaXchange 2024 felt like being part of something bigger. It struck me as a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we collaborate beyond the usual boundaries. I stood alongside people who are just as committed to green growth and resilience as I am, and it really drove home the potential of regional partnerships that go deeper and wider than traditional setups. We’re talking about partnerships that aren’t just about governments and businesses, but also include communities, activists, and academics. A great example is Southeast Asia's Energy Transition Partnership (ETP). Working with local governments, we’ve helped develop renewable energy policies that have led to real change - like Vietnam’s rapid expansion in solar and wind power, cutting down on fossil fuel dependency and creating new jobs. Another is the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia project. It’s about eight countries coming together to tackle waste management. This isn’t just about policy - it’s about communities, businesses, and governments all finding solutions together that actually work. For me, the biggest takeaway from this event was seeing the power of regional collaboration in action. It’s not just about formal partnerships - it’s about equitable, practical solutions that bring together every sector, every voice, and tackle our toughest challenges head-on. Congratulations to the Rockefeller Foundation for organising this significant event. Adopted by the UN General Assembly during the Summit of the Future this week, the ‘Pact for the Future’ represents a significant step forward in building a more sustainable and equitable future for all. But to deliver on the promise of leaving no one behind, we must bridge the gap between ambitions and reality, especially in fragile contexts. “Through our focus on practical solutions, we support our partners to respond to conflicts and crises, deliver sustainable development and advance climate action – responding to needs now, while building the foundations for a sustainable and peaceful future.” – UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva UNOPS is committed to providing the practical solutions needed to help drive forward the Pact for the Future.  https://bit.ly/3MZHeXs
