Tallink Silja Line’s dedicated instructors recently took part in the first-ever full-scale sea rescue exercise with the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board and Tallinn SAR volunteers. Conducted in the challenging offshore conditions of the Bay of Tallinn, this joint exercise aimed to strengthen real-life sea rescue skills and teamwork. Led by our skilled instructors and emergency responders, this collaboration pushed the limits of our survival training, focusing on first-aid, hypothermia response, and life raft skills. Special thanks to all involved for making this crucial training possible!

Yesterday, on October 23rd, we had the honour of welcoming the German Bundestag Transport Committee onboard Tallink Grupp’s MyStar, the most advanced vessel on the Baltic Sea. During the visit, we discussed key challenges in maritime transport, focusing on decarbonisation and sustainable operations. Elise Nassar, Tallink Grupp’s Management Board Member, highlighted the importance of cross-sector cooperation to meet the ambitious EU climate goals. MyStar’s German-made engines reflect the strong ties between Germany and Estonia in shipbuilding and innovation. We are proud to continue driving greener solutions for the Baltic Sea region! Last week (October 10-12th, 2024), we participated in Impact Day, the largest annual sustainability event in the Baltics, held at Põhjala Factory, Tallinn. This year, the event expanded to three days, featuring panel discussions, presentations, and exhibitions on sustainability. Tallink contributed to key discussions on responsible governance and ESG challenges, reinforcing our leadership in sustainability. On the public day, we hosted an interactive children’s area, showcasing our green initiatives with hands-on activities like a ball pit "docking" our vessels for shore power and crafting macrame key rings. Huge thanks to our talented in-house team, led by Inga Piiroja, for making this event a success!

At the end of September, the Tallinna Malev sea group celebrated its 89th founding anniversary and the 11th anniversary of its revival onboard Romantika, docked at Paljassaare harbour. The event kicked off with an engaging tour of the ship’s bridge and engine room, led by Chief Officer Ranet Kaaver and Chief Engineer Janek Eelsaar. Seventeen cadets and eight guests from other youth groups participated in the celebrations, which included a formal dinner and a screening of “The Midday Ferry.” Special thanks to the Romantika crew for making this event memorable!

This Maritime Month has been bustling with activities at Tallink Grupp and our partners at the AS Tallinna Sadam and ESTEVE AS. We kicked off with a tour of Paldiski Sadamate AS / Paldiski Northern Port and the Sailor vessel, diving into the operations of cargo handling and the infrastructure supporting renewable energy and military enhancements. Our journey continued at Old City Harbour, where maritime enthusiasts witnessed the automatic docking of our latest vessel, MyStar, and the environmental advancements with Baltic Queen connecting to shore power. We're proud of the strides we're making in maritime innovation and sustainability.

Safety on board is the foundation of everything we do at Tallink Grupp and our top priority. With the upcoming International Maritime Organization's World Maritime Day later this month on 26 September and this year's theme of "Navigating the future: safety first!", we highlight our commitment to upholding the highest safety standards across all our ships at all times. Not only do all our crew members undergo extensive regular trainings for on board safety during their career at Tallink Silja Line, they each also hold a safety-related role in addition to their regular role on board as barmen, shop assistants, chefs, deck hands, officers, etc. To ensure all safety procedures are as clear as A,B,C to all crew members, they participate in weekly or bi-weekly exercises and drills for lifeboat operations, firefighting, evacuation procedures, first aid, and so much more to ensure they are always prepared for any situation.   Of course, safety does not depend on our crew skills alone, but just as importantly on the lifesaving equipment on board, which is continuously and rigorously tested and maintained by crew and experts, and checked and approved by external experts and authorities. This means no stone is left unturned with ensuring safety processes, systems and equipment is always sufficient for all, adequate and tested. This is why you may see our crew and partners during your journey with us testing our fast rescue boats, updating life-jackets, checking life-rafts, practicing helicopter manoeuvres, gathering at muster points, etc so that in the event of any emergency, everyone on board knows exactly what to do.  We are proud of our team's dedication to safety, which ensures that all our guests can enjoy their voyage with peace of mind. And for all our colleagues at sea around the world during this maritime month, we wish continued safe sailings now and in the future! #maritimesafety #worldmaritimeday #IMO #safetyfirst
