This summer, #CAFATech had the honor of hosting in #Estonia a plenary meeting of the #EDF #MoSaiC consortium, coordinated by Fondazione SAFE - Security and Freedom for Europe. This event marked the midpoint of the project’s implementation, characterized by significant advancements in unmanned robotic solutions and collaborative efforts with partners Fondazione SAFE - Security and Freedom for Europe, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, ENEA, Consorzio C.R.E.O. - Centro Ricerche Elettro Ottiche, Bruhn NewTech, and RE-liON. The #MoSaiC project is dedicated to enhancing response capabilities to chemical and biological threats through innovative technology. Highlights from the meeting included the initial showcase of the unmanned robotic solutions that will be further refined and integrated into the planned MoSaiC solution. Tanel Järvet, CEO of CAFA Tech, commented, "It was a great pleasure to host such a productive meeting. The technical discussions were immensely valuable as we work towards our 2025 goal of demonstrating the chemical sensors on #UAVs and #UGVs in collaboration with our Mosaic partners. A huge thank you to the entire CAFA Tech team for their outstanding effort and dedication." Tanel Reigo, UAV Team Lead at CAFA Tech, added, "I’m delighted that we could deliver a successful UAV demo to our Mosaic partners. It provided everyone with a thorough opportunity to explore the UAV technology in detail." Furthermore, the project aims to create a near-real-time 3D mapping and processing system. This system will be visualized through virtual reality (VR) and extended reality (XR) systems to assist in decision-making processes. It also aims to foster robust data exchange through a Command and Control (C2) and data visualization system that enables multi-user interaction. This meeting not only underscores our progress but also strengthens our commitment to advancing global safety measures against chemical and biological threats. #MoSaiCProject #Innovation #FondazioneSAFE #AIT #ENEA #CAFATech #CREO #BruhnNewTech #REliON #EDF

Supporting Excellence: #CAFATech is proud to have supported the talented young engineers from the Estonian Aviation Academy, who achieved remarkable success at the IMechE UAS Challenge! Before the competition, the Blue Sparrow team visited our CAFA Tech office, sharing their journey of how they built the drone. We had the opportunity to introduce them to our activities, share some useful tips, and we found many exciting common interests. The #BlueSparrowteam made an impressive debut at this prestigious international competition, focused on designing and building an automatic unmanned aerial system (UAS) and testing it in various challenges in the UK. Their outstanding efforts were recognized with awards in the following categories: 🏆 3rd place overall 🏅 Special award in the airworthiness category Competing against 38 teams from around the globe, of which only 20 reached the finals, the Blue Sparrow team showcased exceptional engineering design, project management, and teamwork skills on an international stage. We are incredibly proud to have played a part in their journey and extend our heartfelt congratulations to the students for their dedication and hard work. 🎉👏 #UASChallenge #StudentProject #Innovation #EngineeringExcellence #CAFATech #teamCAFA

In Estonia, the #EDF project #PADIC (Passive Acquisition by Digital Convergence) Pre-Trial in 2024 were successful. The Trials involved participants from Saab (Sweden), Patria (Finland), Rantelon (Estonia), and CAFA Tech (Estonia), significantly advancing coastal surveillance with cutting-edge passive radar technologies. These Pre-Trials marked a crucial shift from software-based integration to the operational deployment of PADIC sensors and systems. #SAAB: Demonstrated the WIDAR passive radar system. #Patria: Tested its Passive Radar Sensor System in Paldiski and Juminda. #Rantelon: Successfully set up L-band additional transmitters. #CAFATech: Coordinated the Command Center and UAV flights, CAFA sensor. Supported by the Estonian Defence Forces, these Pre-Trials provided essential data to refine the PADIC systems, setting the stage for a final demonstration in autumn 2024. #PADIC project, funded by the European Defence Fund (#EDF), aims to develop a coastal radar network system with an open architecture, connecting passive, digital sensors of different types. 📢 Tanel Järvet represented #CAFATech at the first General Assembly Meeting of the SWAT-SHOAL Consortium (SWArm and Teaming operation of manned & unmanned underwater vehicles - SHOAL), funded by the European Commission under the European Defence Fund (#EDF2022), held last week in Cadiz. This event was hosted by the Project Coordinator, Navantia, S.A., S.M.E. We are happy to contribute to this EDF project with our Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (#UAVs) and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (#UUVs) platforms. CAFA Tech is a proud partner in the SWAT-SHOAL project, a 36-month research initiative aimed at developing a system-of-systems concept based on swarming technologies. The project seeks to integrate manned and unmanned naval assets, enabling them to collaborate effectively as a team to enhance performance and efficiency across a broad spectrum of underwater missions against moving subsurface threats. This innovative system will allow different vehicle types to work together as a single unit to tackle complex scenarios or to be organized as a squad, with each platform assigned a specific task.
📢 The SWAT-SHOAL Consortium (#SWArm and Teaming operation of manned & #unmanned #underwater vehicle #SHOAL), funded by the European Commission under the #European #Defence Fund (#EDF2022), completed its first General Assembly Meeting, last week in Cadiz (hosted by the Project Coordinator Navantia, S.A., S.M.E). “I am proud to say that our collaboration is solid and allows us to work efficiently as a European team. This first General Assembly showed our strong motivation and dedication to achieving the expectations set by the European Commission, and the Ministries of Defence, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the results of our research.” – said Víctor Moreno Ortiz, SWAT-SHOAL Project Coordinator.
