Nature Conservation Egypt( NCE) is dedicated to protecting biodiversity as a whole, not just focusing on birds, and today it has taken further positive steps toward nature conservation. On October 20th, a national committee was established in Egypt for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This committee is composed of six active members: the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), the Arab Office for Youth and Environment (AOYE), the Ministry of Environment, the Environment Affairs Agency, the Environmental Writers Association, and Nature Conservation Egypt. NCE has been an IUCN member since 2013 and looks forward to implementing more initiatives in collaboration with this committee. We are hopeful that this committee will help create a positive impact and will be the steering wheel for on ground change. We are still present in the field with our distinguished youth, continuing to train them in classifying and identifying birds. We feel very happy as we witness their achievements and the development of their skills in this important field for the protection of nature 🦅🌿 Methods of Soaring Birds' Identification Training, Gabal El Zeit. 13-19 October, 2024. The third day of the training program witnessed a distinguished event conducted by our scientific team, where practical training was provided to young people to introduce them to the types of migratory birds and how to identify and monitor them using the latest modern monitoring methods. 🌿🦅 A new and distinctive addition to previous training programs, a training program was launched on the skills and basics of wildlife photography. 📸🌍Participants were trained on how to document their daily observations by taking professional photos of nature and birds, and the correct foundations of photography from different angles to ensure the documentation of exceptional moments in wildlife. 💡🔸 It is worth noting that this pioneering training program is organized, implemented and supervised by the New and Renewable Energy Authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, and with the participation of distinguished experts and consultants specialized in the field of bird monitoring and wildlife protection. The aim is to enable young people to acquire the knowledge and practical skills necessary to contribute to protecting migratory birds and preserving biodiversity, to eventually enhance their roles. In a positive step towards preserving nature, Nature Conservation Egypt’s team is currently participating in giving a specialized training course organized in alignment with the New and Renewable Energy Authority and in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment during the period of 13 to 19 October. Through this course, the team seeks to qualify young technical cadres to be capable of protecting migratory and local birds, preserving their natural habitats, identifying the threats they face, and proposing innovative solutions to preserving biodiversity in Egypt. Nature Conservation Egypt shines in Sustainable Energy Week 2024. We are pleased to announce our active participation in Sustainable Energy Week 2024, which was held from 1st to 3rd of October. We had a distinguished participation in the side event under the slogan “Harmony of Nature and Energy: Biodiversity in Sustainable Energy Practices,” which was organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE). The session focused on the vital interplay between biodiversity and sustainable energy in our region, with experts discussing how to design renewable energy projects that preserve biodiversity, the impact of technology on our environment, as well as methods to reduce damage to ecosystems. The successes of integrating biodiversity into energy planning, through protecting natural habitats and adopting wildlife-friendly infrastructure, were also reviewed. During the session, Dr. Khaled Noby highlighted the importance of protecting bird migration flyways and how to reduce the risks of collisions with electricity transmission lines. He pointed to the negative effects of poor planning of renewable energy projects, stressing that power lines can pose a major threat to endangered birds. Real-life examples were provided from countries such as Mongolia, where thousands of falcons are in danger of being electrocuted, as well as in Brazil, where power lines threaten the endangered Lear parrot. Dr. Noby stated that there are 80 million kilometers of power lines around the world, enough to reach the moon and back 200 times, and this number is expected to double by 2040 with the shift towards renewable energy. If this continues, we could see bird mortality increase to nearly a billion birds per year by 2040, highlighting the urgent need to come together to confront this environmental catastrophe. Concluding his speech, Dr. Noby called on everyone to work together to stop biodiversity loss by 2030 and fully restore the ecosystem by 2050. The BirdLife International Council for the Africa Partnership (CAP) 2024 has officially commenced in Saly, Senegal! Hosted by Nature-Communautes-Developpement (NCD), this meeting brings conservation leaders across Africa to discuss the theme “Flyways: Interconnectivity and Sustainability.” We are currently discussing migratory bird conservation strategies, implementing key biodiversity initiatives, and enhancing partnerships to ensure the future of our precious landscapes. Also, conversations about Important Bird Areas (IBAs) and Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) have been highlighted. These sites are globally significant for biodiversity, and we’re addressing the challenges of keeping them properly conserved.
