    Managed and overseen by the #Port Authority of #Valencia, Valencia’s Seaport serves as a strategically significant hub for both short and long-distance service routes. In this context, DARES TECHNOLOGY has conducted a multi-temporal #InSAR analysis of this area using #ESA #Sentinel1 #SAR images from June 2023 to December 2023. While most #urban areas remained stable, several active #displacement processes have been identified around the #harbor sector, with #subsidence magnitudes in some areas reaching up to 4 cm.     🌊 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝗺: 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗦𝗔𝗥 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 W𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 🌊⁣ ⁣ The Mosul Dam, the largest hydraulic structure in Iraq and one of the largest in the Arab region, poses significant risk. United Nations studies indicate that a catastrophic failure could generate a 45-meter-high tsunami wave, threatening Mosul within 2-4 hours. Additionally, Baghdad, nearly 400 km downstream, could face flooding of up to 8 meters, affecting 4-6 million people along the Tigris River floodplain.⁣ ⁣ The Mosul Dam, constructed over highly soluble materials (evaporites), presents a geological risk to its structural stability. In this context, the Multi-temporal InSAR technique offers valuable ground displacement information, allowing to anticipate potential failures.⁣ ⁣ In this context, DARES has conducted a multi-temporal InSAR analysis of this area using #ESA #Sentinel1 #SAR images from January 2022 to December 2022. Notice how displacement processes over the Dam reach magnitudes up to 1.0 cm. Important features are, however, observed upstream, where displacement values range between 5.0 and 6.0 cm. The time series presented shows an increase in the velocity between October and December 2022.     ❗ A massive #iceberg covering 380 square kilometers, approximately the size of the island of La Gomera, and 150 meters thick has broken off from the #Brunt Ice Shelf in #Antarctica. 🧊 The iceberg separated after a #crack suddenly appeared on the ice shelf a few weeks ago. The final #break occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 20th. This is the third major calving event in this area in the past four years. 🛰 The figure shows the pre- and post-event #ESA #Sentinel1 images corresponding to 11/05/2024 and 23/05/2024, respectively. 📈 #Satellite imagery provides valuable data for iceberg #monitoring, allowing frequent updates of information through repeated observations.     🚧 Tailings Storage Facilities (#TSFs) are critical for #mining operations. However, TSF #failures pose significant environmental and social #risks. An intensive #monitoring during operational phases is crucial to ensure its integrity.   🛰 #InSAR technique is an efficient monitoring solution, offering cost-effective and dense #displacement data coverage over TSF areas. However, the time spent between #SAR images reception and the completion of the processing to obtain displacement measurements often compromises the usefulness of this technique. Moreover, the requirements to carry out the operational and strategic oversight of numerous TSFs for major mining corporations pose additional challenges. ⏳ Following the previous arguments, defining an InSAR Semi-Unsupervised Rapid Monitoring Service is mandatory to obtain quick and easy access to frequently updated displacement #insights in TSF operations across different countries.    📈 The figure highlights the key points on which the DARES TECHNOLOGY’s Semi-Unsupervised InSAR Rapid Monitoring Service is based for near real-time displacement monitoring over TSF areas.
