When planning a project, historical data can used to retroactively investigate areas of interest or to establish a baseline for ongoing projects. Radar satellites have been collecting images around the globe since the early 1990’s. Urban and rural locations worldwide have archive data available for InSAR analyses. 3vG can conduct a data archive search of all relevant satellite image databases to determine data availability over your specific area of interest. If sufficient imagery is available, we can conduct an InSAR analysis of these images to measure displacement over the associated time frame. Precise monitoring and analysis of ground displacement is essential in geotechnical engineering to guarantee the safety and stability of a monitored region. In the past, Motionary provided a fixed displacement rate map that was regularly updated with new information. This map displayed a graphical representation of the average amount of movement in a monitored region during a designated timeframe, typically three months. Motionary's latest InSAR analysis tool, Variable Heatmaps, users are enabled to examine displacement rates at a designated location for any desired monitoring duration. This feature allows for the identification of connections, trends, and irregularities that would not be visible on standard heatmaps. See Variable Heatmaps in action: https://loom.ly/ODDgVYU Or read more about it in our latest blog post: https://loom.ly/PHcSduE #3vgeomatics #3vg #variableheatmaps #motionary #satellite #data #geotechnicalengineering #displacementratemaps #learnmore

Stretching over 700 miles through the heart of California, the California Aqueduct serves as the foundation of the state's water system. It runs through the Tulare Lake Basin, where groundwater is continuously pumped from underground aquifers. The responsibility of overseeing the pumping and ensuring the well-being of the aqueduct falls on government agencies. 3vG examined past data from two major regions in the basin in order to assess the significant movement caused by groundwater extraction and identify any areas that may be at risk for minor but harmful displacement along the California Aqueduct. The length of the California aqueduct spans more than 700 miles. In the event of subsidence along this length, pooling of water can impede the flow downstream. These displacement areas are typically small, spanning less than 10 meters. Neglecting to address these issues can result in high reparation expenses. Pipeline systems, such as those utilized for the transportation of oil and gas, frequently cover vast distances of hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. These pipelines serve the purpose of conveying crude oil from drilling locations to refineries. Following the refining process, pipelines are then employed to transport fuel to airports, urban regions, and industrial facilities. Linear infrastructure like pipelines should be monitored for geohazards and ground displacement. Damage may come from landslides, ground settlement, permafrost, urban development, or vegetation. Detecting and monitoring displacement helps mitigate potential damage cost-effectively. InSAR can detect subtle changes in structure, foundation, or surrounding landscape with millimeter-to-centimeter precision. It can cover entire networks and detect thousands of potential hazards to a pipeline network. InSAR also has an extensive archive of historical imagery for historical displacement results before ongoing monitoring.
