Rocío Ferreiro Miguéns, from NASASBIOTECH SL, exposes her poster "Advance Liquid Biopsy for Glioblastoma: EGFRvIII Detection in Extracellular Vesicles”. Liquid biopsy (LB) is the analysis of tumor cell products in blood or another biofluids, it includes CTCs, ctDNA and extracellular vesicles (EVs). Nowadays there are many studies in different cancers, such as glioblastoma (GMB), one off the most common and aggressive brain tumors, with a life expectancy of 15 months from diagnosis. In this context, the role of EVs has been described as a good tool for precision oncology. The aim of this #thesis was to compare methods for the #isolation of sEVs from limited blood plasma volumes and to explore their #DNA and #RNA cargo in comparison with circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) towards developing a multi-analyte #LiquidBiopsy (MALBA) test. Our kit #exoGAG was screened using sEVs from in vitro cell culture models. In conclusion, results presented in the thesis show that sEVs harbour DNA and RNA cargo and can provide additional information to plasma cfDNA warranting further investigation of sEV cargo as a liquid biopsy analyte in a larger series of patients. https://lnkd.in/dKjQxKyp

Even though modern technology has been able to monitor these patients and apply treatment, reducing the mortality rate, early diagnosis still lags, resulting in an overall cause of morbidity induced by #cancer #metastasis. "One of the biggest challenges for the study of Extracellular vesicles (EVs) has been their isolation. Current techniques are generally time-consuming and also inherently provide a low yield. Recently, the #ExoGAG reagent has been introduced as an alternative method to streamline EV enrichment allowing their isolation from #LiquidBiopsies, and obtaining a purified EV population.  This project aims to develop a microfluidic device capable of mixing EVs with ExoGAG to obtain a purified sample for breast cancer diagnosis." "Determinar el mejor #tratamiento para cada #paciente a partir del análisis de #biomarcadores de una muestra de sangre. Este es, hoy por hoy, el principal uso de la #BiopsiaLíquida, una de las estrategias clave en la #oncología de predicción y que apenas asoma su enorme potencial." También puede emplearse para predecir la recurrencia o no de un #tumor y evitar así la administración de #quimioterapia de forma innecesaria. Y, dentro de no mucho, podrá usarse de forma rutinaria para la detección precoz de los tumores. Sin embargo, el análisis de biomarcadores en la sangre para elegir terapias personalizadas para el #cáncer solo se emplea en el 15% de los pacientes. Es fundamental que tanto profesionales de la #salud como la sociedad en general tomemos conciencia de la importancia de esta tecnología.
