English INTRO below! We are pleased to announce that for the first time, we have been able to harness the in-situ production of bacterial cellulose (BC) to produce 3D shapes from the beginning using an oxygen-permeable polymer template. The strategy we present here also includes using agarose during production to ensure the preservation of the 3D shape, and in some cases, we combined the direct and indirect aerobic incubation in succession. The new approach comes in cooperation among City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications SRTA-City, Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority - EAEA, and NN group - Research group on Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites at ICMAB to pave the way towards benefiting from the outstanding properties of BC in broader horizons of biomedical applications, especially in the fields of prosthetic implants and plastic surgeries. Anna Roig represents the NN group - Research group on Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites at ICMAB at the INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC) Barcelona within EPNOE. As a Research Professor, she focuses on the rational design and synthesis of nanoparticles and nanocomposites, investigating their structural and (bio)functional properties. Her goals include: ✔ Expanding the scope of bio-based #polymers through #nanotechnology; ✔ Exploring the use of microbial-origin #nanocellulose for healthcare applications. 💬Regarding EPNOE, Anna shared: "In EPNOE, our group has discovered a knowledgeable community of polysaccharide experts from whom we can learn, share common interests, and embark on collaborative projects." #MeetEPNOEMembers #MemberSpotlight
