🚩PALIMPSEST initiated the Prototyping Phase last week in #JerezdelaFrontera, #Spain! 💡During these three days, Estelle Jullian (Culturama) and Nomad Garden, together with the professors of the Degree in Ceramics at the School of Art Design of Jerez and their students, presented and discussed PALIMPSEST's framework and the Songs of the Nearby Earth (SONE) proposal, which will be developed in the city over the next year and a half. ❗Then, a series of meetings with local experts were organized to brainstorm on the traditional zambomba of Jerez (Coca family) and the challenge of redesigning it to fit in the SONE's vision: its shape and sound dimension (Belenish), its future use as a renaturalization device (Asociación Amigos de los Árboles). 🌟 Reconnecting Milan with the river Lambro: PALIMPSEST residential workshop #1! 💡From 17 to 24 June, Milan hosted the first PALIMPSEST residential workshop, kicking off an ambitious project to reconnect the city with its rich water heritage. Known for its architectural wonders and cultural history, Milan's landscape was once dominated by the River Lambro and a network of canals, including the intricate system designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Over time, urban expansion has obscured these waterways, leading to environmental degradation and a loss of historical identity. 🚩#PALIMPSEST is dedicated to the revival of this landscape. The Acqua Lambro project, led by artists gethan&myles, aims to restore the vitality of the Lambro River through community engagement and innovative approaches to the creative action. 📅 Workshop Highlights: Day 1️⃣: Warm welcome at Cascina Biblioteca and introduction to the artists’ project "Acqua Lambro". Day 2️⃣: Exploration of Parco Lambro, discussions with hydrobiologist Giulo Conte and agronomist Antonio Corbari. Day 3️⃣: Biking tour of renatured areas along the Lambro, emphasising ecological restoration. Friday & Saturday: Creative prototyping, debris collection in the river, and a visit to Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper." Day 6️⃣: Cyanotype workshop on the Lambro's banks, blending creativity with research. Final Day 7️⃣: UN conference at Politecnico di Milano and an audio interview with the artists. 🚩PALIMPSEST EU Project had the great pleasure of attending the 11th edition of European Urban Resilience Forum (EURESFO)! 💡On the 27th of June, Chema Segovia from CULTURALINK participated in the case study session entitled “Does Culture Count for Resilience? Opportunities and Challenges for More Resilient Cultural Landscapes” where he presented the conceptual and methodological framework of #PALIMPSEST, followed by the sharing of insights with other fellow research projects funded by #HorizonEurope RescueME and THETIDA. ✔EURESFO has served as a pivotal European initiative since 2013 and it has been acting as a unique exchange platform in the field of resilience. Irene Bianchi, Giada Casarin, PhD, and Maryam Karimi participated in the XXVI SIU (Società Italiana degli Urbanisti) Conference titles "Novel Territorial Ecologies: Cohabiting Changing Worlds", held in Naples from June 12-14. Giada presented in the session “Houses and Services” (Case e Servizi), organized by Massimo Bricocoli and Cristina Mattiucci, with a paper on “Digital Innovation of Essential Public Services: a Double-Edged Sword for Immigrants?” (L’innovazione digitale dei servizi pubblici essenziali: una lama a doppio taglio per gli immigrati?). Their presentation highlighted preliminary findings from the città-IN project, detailing the barriers immigrant families face in accessing public services. These barriers are not only due to language accessibility issues with platforms and procedures but also stem from educational and digital poverty affecting local communities, as well as limited human rights literacy in the process of public service design and delivery. The session, chaired by Massimo Bricocoli and Cristina Mattiucci, and discussed by Francesca Cognetti, Carlo Cellamare, Elena Marchigiani, and Barbara Pizzo, who provided valuable insights and stimulating discussions on the topic. Irene's presentation, titled "Hybrid Perspectives for Climate and Territorial Resilience: An Experiment Between Research, Art, and Local Action" (Prospettive ibride per la resilienza climatica e territoriale: Un esperimento tra ricerca, arte e azione locale), illustrated some insights into the experimentation process that the PALIMPSEST EU Project has initiated in Jerez de la Frontera. Starting from the assumption the #climatecrisis demands new spaces for dialogue between ways of imagining and acting, the contribution reflects how the inclusion of creative perspectives can illuminate new directions in the face of climate-related problems, facilitating unexpected alliances and supporting innovation dynamics. Irene presented in the session “Cantieri”, chaired by Enrico Formato and Anna Attademo. 🚩The PALIMPSEST team successfully concluded its 4th Plenary Meeting! 🌍Taking place virtually on June 4th and 5th, 2024, the 4th Plenary meeting provided a valuable platform for project partners to convene and evaluate the advancements made in each Work Package.
