Last week, taking advantage of the third consortium meeting of the FURHY Project, our colleagues, Sandra Medel and Joseba Luna, attended the ECO-DESIGN OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS Workshop, hosted and organised by CETMA at their headquarters in Brindisi. Very interesting technical topics such as recyclable matrices or vitrimers were discussed, and strategic visions about the future of the sector from an environmental, social and economic point of view were shared by participants and attendees. I am very happy to announce that my final degree thesis "DROPLET: Sustainable Approaches for Fluorine-free Omniphobic Coatings" is the winner of the SDGs of Agenda 2030 competition of Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. This project was conducted in ONYRIQ and I am very grateful for the support and experience gained from it. Winning this award means a lot considering this project sets the beginning of my career in sustainability and material science, a career that is now continued with my PhD at University of Limerick. Especial mentions towards my final degree thesis supervisors Emilio Castro, Joseba Luna, Daniel Peral Crespo and for Ainhoa Tolentino Chivite, Sandra Medel Fernández and Mireia Miro Mezquita.

We are hosting an Open Innovation Workshop on #Recycling #Reuse and #Recovery of #AdvancedComposites !!! It will be an hybrid event on the 7th of June, taking place in Brussels and online. Fiber-reinforced composites are amongst the enabling materials for the green and digital transitions in the transport and mobility sector. They allow for lightweighting, purpose-built functions, and high performances even in extreme applications. However, their overall safety and sustainability profile still suffers from potential negative impacts mainly related to manufacturing, and the end-of-life dimensions. Research is on-going to develop more sustainable solutions, introducing biobased components, developing more efficient processes, exploring reuse and recycle solutions. The workshop aims to share insights with experts in the field on chemical systems and novel technologies, and production techniques toward recycling and recovery of high-value composite constituents, and to understand the interplay among these variables. A focus will be made on automotive, aerospace, marine and infrastructures applications. Meet us there!!! All the details of the inscription can be found on the first comment. REPOXYBLE material development approach is based on the adaptation of commercial epoxy resin systems by including ONYRIQ’s proprietary cleavable building blocks. These systems allow the recyclability of the final composite, recovering starting materials in a closed loop process. The first lab scale depolymerizable epoxy systems developed during #REPOXYBLE project showed high thermal resistance and glass transition temperature and suitable viscosity for prepreg production. Moreover, these materials displayed excellent recyclability behavior under mild conditions. Meet ONYRIQ, our material developer at #REPOXYBLE! Onyriq develops new, easily industrialized polymers and processes to solve industrial needs in a technical and economically feasible way. With more than 15 years of experience, they have studied the relation between polymeric structures and their physical and chemical properties. They are experts designing and synthesizing polymer materials that meet customer's demands. ONYRIQ designs, synthesizes and formulates polymers with tailor-made properties and functionalities, including enhanced mechanical properties, recyclability, chemical resistance, thermal conductivity or flame retardancy. They improve the sustainability of materials and processes by using biodegradable or bio-based polymers and solvent-free systems, replacing unhealthy and environment-damaging products with respectful alternatives. They make custom encapsulations for protection and/or controlled release of compounds by different mechanisms, such as pH, temperature or shear.
