What does it take to attract young professionals to your organization? According to the latest YPAI -survey results by Academic Work, the main attributes are 1. Salary, 2. Flexibility, 3. Company culture. Some very interesting insights include; -         Flexibility rated highest ever -         It is more important to women than men (significant difference) – and the reason often being that it’s easier to combine work and family life -         It is the first time when women have rated salary higher than men. Salary is often there to ‘enable a certain lifestyle’ -         Companies need to put the salary in the job advert, transparency and fairness is important – remember to mention potential for development both also in terms of the salary -         Being a manager no longer interests young professionals as it means being more present at the workplace and ‘dealing with people’. Some questions that arise; -         If work is there to be accommodated to your lifestyle, hobbies and other activities, what does that mean to Finland’s future competitiveness? -         If men are not worried about combining work and family life (there was ONE man who mentioned that in the survey), what does it mean to the gender balance in our work life? -         If working as a manager is no longer attractive (and even less for women), who will lead our companies in the future? 👋 On Monday, Amcham Finland's Markus Myllyniemi and Michael Klyszeiko had the pleasure of speaking with University of Virginia Darden School of Business MBA students. 🎓 In this session, our team shared insights on Finland's culture, politics, and economics 📊 with the students, and discussed the latest developments in transatlantic cooperation—including NATO membership and the U.S. becoming Finland's largest export partner 🇺🇸🇫🇮. 💡The audience was exceptionally engaging with insightful questions that sparked meaningful conversations for everyone involved. It's inspiring to connect with such enthusiastic future business leaders!

Smile like an optimist! What a delightful evening last night, celebrating Mika Maliranta’s new book ‘Pinnan alta’. If there’s something that this country needs, it is a vision for economic growth and in general, a positive vision for the future. Mika’s theory on innovation-based renewal of Finnish businesses resonates with many and aligns perfectly with the rational optimism message also shared at Amcham Finland’s FDI Forum last month where Mika was keynote speaker. I especially appreciated Mika including the impact (and strong growth!) of the foreign-owned companies’ R&D investment to Finland. It is evident that FDI will have to be part of Finland’s growth story going forward. Thank you Mika for the wonderful evening and thank you also to Juhana Vartiainen for his insightful and entertaining book review, plus recommendations how to ensure the quality of education in Finland – another important part of the growth story!

In addition to an inspiring keynote for our members, Amcham Finland also hosted a couple of exclusive sessions for a more in-depth conversation with Venkat. 🤖 On Thursday, Katie Girow and Rosa Thurman hosted our members and key partners for a private and high-level dinner at our member Ravintola Pastis / Muru Atelier Oy, where we discussed the future of AI and digital technology. 🇺🇸🇫🇮 Farewell to a great champion of Finland-U.S. relations! 🪢 Yesterday, our CEO, Alexandra Pasternak-Jackson, attended a farewell reception at the U.S. Embassy in Finland for Ambassador Douglas Hickey. As Ambassador Hickey prepares to return to the U.S., we reflect on his impactful tenure. 🇫🇮🇺🇸 Ambassador Hickey's leadership has strengthened Finland-U.S. relations in such an extraordinary time. From fostering deeper connections between our nations through Finland’s accession to #NATO and the #Defence Cooperation Agreement to supporting businesses and entrepreneurs, his leadership has left a lasting impact.
