Over two intensive days, design organisations, experts, researchers, and policymakers from across the Nordics and Baltics gathered in Gothenburg to discuss how we can drive a sustainable transformation in our societies through design! 🌍✨ The Nordic & Baltic Design Summit offered lectures, networking opportunities, exhibitions, and panel discussions, where we collectively explored how design can contribute to circular societies, energy efficiency, and sustainable lifestyles. We learned, among other things, about how biodiversity and wild meadows are fostering public engagement through urbanLIFEcircles, how Sun in my Backyard is investigating ways to integrate solar cells into everyday products, how Pådriv Oslo is working through partnerships for circular development, how R8 Technologies is advancing the property sector’s transition to a low-carbon future using cutting-edge AI technology, and how Textile Movement has developed skills and processes to support the textile industry’s transformation. Some highlights from the last week! Hundreds of people joined us yesterday for the Lindström #circulareconomy webinar! Thank you for being such an active audience and posting so many questions to us. Pasi Nokelainen went through the seven circular economy statements based on his book. Like Pasi says, a circular economy is a great "remedy" for many of the challenges we face today. I shared three circular transformation and innovation stories on Inrego, Interface and S.Lab based on Ethica Finland Circular Design Framework. Ulla Luhtasela introduced Lindström's marvellous circular work. I especially liked their 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th user approach 👏 👏 👏 . Maija Lehmusvirta facilitated the event with her super elegant and engaging style. Well done, Lindström, for organising such a professional and topical webinar!

It was a privilege to participate in this UNDP event as one of the global experts to discuss #circulareconomy and closing the loop for plastics. In addition to the points below my key takeaways were that the circular transition is a common global challenge where new kind of collaborations are needed, and how important is the role of local front-runners to initiate and lead the change! Big thank you from Ethica Finland to UNDP in Europe and Central Asia, Circular Innovation Lab ApS and all the fellow participants!

Presenting an exciting new Circular Design case! ✏ ♻ In 2023, ten Estonian companies participated in Ethica's & BDA Consulting's four-month Circular Design Masterclass, with a new cohort that started again in spring 2024. The programme is based on Ethica's Circular Design Framework, a comprehensive approach to business development that helps companies create practical circular product and service concepts. These concepts meet ecodesign standards and focus on life-cycle planning and circular business models. The programme isn't just about theory - the Masterclass enables companies to develop real solutions that address every stage of their products' lifecycle, from material sourcing to end-of-life strategies. The companies come from a range of industries, including construction, textiles, bio-products and beverages.
