European Research Infrastructure for Imaging in Biological & Biomedical Sciences

About us

Euro-BioImaging is the European landmark research infrastructure for biological and biomedical imaging as recognised by the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), and with the ERIC legal status (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) by the European Commission in November 2019. Euro-BioImaging ERIC is a joint effort of 18 countries and EMBL. The mission of Euro-BioImaging ERIC as a distributed research infrastructure is to provide open access to world-class imaging services, training opportunities, data management services and expertise at nearly 200 world-class imaging facilities across Europe organised in Nodes. Every researcher in academia or industry, independent of research area, level of expertise, or geographical location, can apply for Euro-BioImaging services, which they do not have ready access to at their home institute, just by submitting a short application or contacting us via our website (www.eurobioimaging.eu). Euro-BioImaging effectively bridges the biological and biomedical imaging communities and enables innovative and world-class research, thus boosting the productivity and impact of research across Europe. This fully distributed European research infrastructure is managed by the tripartite Hub, which consists of a Statutory Seat in Turku, Finland, a community-specific section for biological imaging at EMBL (Heidelberg) and the community-specific section for biomedical imaging in Torino, Italy. The Euro-Bioimaging Hub runs the day-to-day management of the organisation, promoting it nationally and internationally, contributing to the coordinated provision of services, and fostering liaison and cooperation across the broad bioimaging communities in Europe and beyond. Any questions? Please don't hesitate to contact us: info@eurobioimaging.eu

On 29-30.8, the Euro-BioImaging team participated in the "33rd BioCity Symposium: Unleashing the Power of Metabolism." Imaging is crucial for understanding the interplay of metabolism with other physiological systems, and we gathered numerous insights from discussions at the Euro-BioImaging booth: 1. Early-career scientists from all fields were particularly eager to learn more about Euro-BioImaging's open-access services and funding opportunities. 2. Visitors outside Europe were delighted to discover Euro-BioImaging's opportunities tailored for them and learn about Global BioImaging (and other imaging organisations worldwide). 3. Senior researchers already knew about Euro-BioImaging and visited the booth to learn more about our latest developments, including our technology portfolio.

Today, we had the privilege of welcoming Marc Lemaître, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) at the European Commission, to Euro-BioImaging's headquarters in Turku, Finland. During our strategic meeting, we discussed Euro-BioImaging's role in bridging European research and innovation and the strategic importance of research infrastructures in strengthening the European Research Area (ERA), supporting the EU missions and contributing to EU competitiveness, preparedness, and resilience. We also emphasised our commitment to supporting EU Missions and providing resilience and strength to a broad spectrum of European infrastructure needs. Our conversation also highlighted the active role of Euro-BioImaging across various scientific domains and projects, particularly with the European Innovation Council (EIC), widening countries, and different EU agencies. Overall, we concluded that European open-access infrastructures are a unique and tremendous asset in accomplishing the EU agenda and aims and providing scientific impact now and in the future!
