Today, August 26, we celebrate Ilmatar's name day. Have you ever wondered what our name, Ilmatar, means and where it comes from? Ilmatar, the name inspired by Finnish mythology, symbolises the Goddess of Air. The connection to the name comes from the company's early years, as Ilmatar was established to harness the wind, and today the also the sun, to shape a more sustainable future. For many of us, Ilmatar is more than a company name. Our employees, Ilmatarians, share in the article what Ilmatar means to them - each with a unique perspective, all united by the same name. Did you know that building a wind farm happens piece by piece? It's not an easy task, but with careful planning and strong collaboration, we achieve great things. Construction of our 30-turbine Pahkakoski wind farm in Yli-Ii is on track. It is one of the first large scale sites in Europe to be built with the innovative TCI-operating model ensuring efficient and seamless construction. Our partner SILVASTI begun the transportation of components from port of Raahe to Pahkakoski wind farm this week. The construction of our Korpilevonmäki wind farm is progressing well. The civil works (roads, hardstands, foundation and 33kv cabling works) have been finished and first turbine components were delivered to the site on 8 August. The pre-installation of the first three tower sections will start this week. “From construction perspective the well-developed project is progressing according to all plans related to both schedule and budget.”, comments Petri Ainonen, Director, Construction. #renewableenergy #windfarm #windenergy #construction

Matters important to us are visible in our partnerships. Circular economy is one example. The recycling potential of wind turbines is over 90%. Although the actual recycling process is not yet topical, as the manufacturer promises a service life of up to 40 years for wind power plants, we make sure that power plants' materials and components can be reused and recycled even better in the future. Circular economy at the heart of our cooperation with the Finnish Scouts. For the second year in a row, we are supporting the Sustainable Scouting Fund, which enables local groups to better integrate the circular economy and environmental actions into their activities. Already 48 local groups have received support for their actions. #circulareconomy #renewableenergy #cooperation #FinnishScouts. Today we had the pleasure of presenting Ilmatar, our offshore projects and the interregional island co-operation that is underway between Åland, Gotland, Bornholm and Saaremaa to five British journalists from among others The Telegraph, The Times and The Economist, hosted by Markus Hippi from Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. "It was exciting to welcome journalists from the UK, a country at the forefront of offshore wind power. We discussed significant topics such as energy's role in the current geopolitical landscape, international connectivity, foundation types, and the socio-economic opportunities and challenges we face as a society," says Anna Häger, Ilmatar's Regional Manager. on the Åland Islands. #renewableenergy #ilmatar #cleantransition #offshorewind

"It was honouring to welcome the schooner Helena to the crowded Port of Mariehamn with all the tall ships and an incredible atmosphere. A true celebration of how wind power has brought nations together through discovery, culture and economies. STAF's work and method to counteract exclusion through the teamwork required during sailing is incredible", says Ilmatar's Regional Manager Anna Häger, who together with Senior Advisor Christian Pleijel visited our sponsor partner STAF. During Almedalen Week, participants were given the opportunity to label events with Kraftkvinnorna's "Gender Equality Seminar" label, which we chose to do at the round table discussion "Large-scale solar energy in practice". We have now also joined the Kraftkvinnorna network, aiming to promote skilled women in the energy industry and counteract the perception that there is a shortage of them. At Ilmatar, we currently have 33% women in management positions within the company, and our target is to have >40% by 2027. #renewableenergy #almedalenweek #almedalen# #kraftkvinnorna #equality

Grid connections, grid connections, grid connections – that's the theme shaping most discussions we engage in during the Almedalen Week (Almedalsveckan), where sustainability issues cut across the entire agenda. But to achieve our sustainability goals, rapid and efficient upscaling of renewable energy production is a must. While solar energy represents the fastest route to increased electricity production, our approach must extend beyond panels on rooftops and above car parks. Presently, 50 gigawatts of solar power stand in line to be connected, with Ilmatar contributing over 5 GW through our large-scale solar energy project pipeline. This morning, Ilmatars Christian Gustafsson attended the Gullers Grupp seminar "Large-scale solar energy in practice" alongside Energimarknadsinspektionen, Svenska kraftnät, Länsstyrelsen Värmland, Göteborg Energi and Arboga kommun. We have also engaged with, among others, AxSol, Solkompaniet, STUNS, Vattenfall, E.ON and Neoen. The energy industry is ready to respond to societal demands, our focus now is on shortening the connection queues. #solarenergy #renewableenergy #almedalen2024 #almedalen #almedalsveckan2024
