Can parks lower CO₂ in cities? Parks act as “green lungs” in dense urban areas — absorbing carbon dioxide by day and releasing a small amount by night. This daily cycle is driven by photosynthesis, which peaks in daylight hours and drops off after sunset. As a result, CO₂ levels in parks are significantly lower than surrounding areas during the day — but slightly higher at night. Germany approves €500 billion infrastructure fund — with €100 billion earmarked for climate action.    Germany’s incoming coalition government has secured the final legal approval for a €500 billion debt-financed fund for infrastructure, defence, and climate action. At least €100 billion is to be allocated specifically to climate-related projects over the next 12 years. This marks one of the largest public commitments to industrial and infrastructure transformation in Europe to date.   For construction and manufacturing professionals, several key takeaways are emerging: - Environmental performance data is likely to become increasingly important for accessing public funds. LCAs and EPDs offer the transparency needed to support evidence-based decisions and enable the construction industry to align with decarbonization targets.   - Low-carbon manufacturing methods and materials are explicitly within the scope of Germany’s climate neutrality strategy, which this fund aims to support.   - The initiative aligns with broader EU climate objectives, and could influence public procurement criteria and industrial policy beyond Germany’s borders.   Economists and policy experts stress that the fund’s impact on long-term growth and decarbonization will depend on how the investments are prioritised and governed.    At One Click LCA, we work with stakeholders across the value chain to support these needs — enabling manufacturers, engineers and project teams to measure and improve the environmental performance of materials and projects in line with policy and funding requirements.
