Onego Bio is proud to receive Co-innovation funding from Business Finland as part of the international FoodID project! The project is part of the Global Centers research program, led by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and operated jointly by six countries, with the aim of developing solutions that support a climate-neutral future and solving global challenges, especially through bioeconomy. The project develops new sustainable processes based on the production of alternative proteins and lipids from plants and fermentation. Onego's highly scalable technology to produce egg white protein without chickens using precise fermentation meets the growing needs of the food industry with a 90% smaller environmental footprint compared to conventional egg production. In this project, in collaboration with VTT we investigate the processing and utilization of alternative feedstocks such as food industry side streams in our fermentation process. The use of side streams and alternative plant biomass as feedstock has the potential to further improve sustainability of the production of alternative proteins and to increase the circularity and efficiency in the food system. The three-year project is implemented as a collaboration between the United States and Finland coordinated by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Other organizations involved in this project are the University of Helsinki, VTT, Valio, Fazer, MeEat Food Tech Oy, and Enifer. We opened our doors in sunny San Diego 🌴 We were thrilled to celebrate the opening of our San Diego office – a significant step forward in our mission of providing the food industry the perfect protein. The evening featured great music, a lot of good conversations, and a vibrant atmosphere that made the night truly memorable. Our new office serves as our commercial headquarters, complete with cutting-edge test kitchen and quality labs. The facility is also a valuable resource for our food manufacturing partners, demonstrating the application and versatility of Bioalbumen® in a variety of delicious food and beverages. 🥚 We look forward to the exciting next steps for our company, and are grateful to our team and partners for helping us reach this milestone. We are honored to share that Onego Bio has been awarded $2 million in funding from the United States Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program (DBIMP). The funding from this program supports the advancement of biomanufacturing infrastructure across the United States, strengthening the domestic supply of key materials and ingredients. The DBIMP funding program stems from the White House's 2022 Executive Order 14081, "Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe, and Secure American Bioeconomy," which seeks to strengthen the United States' leadership in biomanufacturing by fostering innovation, improving supply chain resilience, and supporting economic growth.
