Did you know? To the best of our knowledge, Solein is the world’s most sustainable protein, surpassing both meat and plant based proteins in its minimal environmental impact. A closer comparison reveals the distinct advantages of Solein over plant proteins. Producing a kilogram of Solein requires just 1% of the water and 5% of the arable land that growing a kilogram of plant protein does. At the same time, Solein generates only a fifth of the carbon dioxide emissions in the process. #foodofthefuture #outofthinair #NextGenEU

We're over the moon to announce that we've been selected as one of the Phase III winners of the Deep Space Food Challenge, a competition organized by NASA and CSA. This challenge aims to discover innovative solutions to feed astronauts on long space missions. Curious about how our concept works? 🚀Our space concept produces #Solein according to the same microbial gas fermentation technique we use to grow the novel protein on Earth. 🌌Any space habitat has ample amounts of hydrogen available, as a by-product of oxygen generation for the crew, as well as CO2 respirated by the crew. When integrated with the on-board environmental control and life support systems of a spacecraft, the food production system will be able to utilize both the CO2 as well as waste hydrogen from the on-board oxygen generation system that is currently vented overboard. 🚀We did it! 🚀 The NASA’s & CSA’s Deep Space Food Challenge reached its climax today with the announcement of the winners of the third and final phase of the challenge. We are exhilarated that Solar Foods was selected as the international category winner! The Deep Space Food Challenge seeks innovations to feed astronauts on long space missions. This win provides compelling evidence that producing nutritionally rich Solein® in space is one of the most attractive food production solutions. In space, the possibilities to prepare food are extremely limited, and we are solving this challenge by recreating our Solein bioprocess to fit smaller confines, while drastically improving the water economy of our future spaceships. "Our mission is to solve the global food crisis and of course, Solein is primarily meant to be enjoyed on Earth. But Space is the ultimate stress test of a circular economy: It represents both an opportunity to advance the history of science and a chance to grow and diversify our business. We are beyond excited to help take humanity deeper into space, while at the same time developing Solein production for extreme conditions here on Earth", says Arttu Luukanen, the Senior Vice President of Space & Defence at Solar Foods. The Deep Space Food Challenge, organized by the Methuselah Foundation, was launched in 2021 by NASA and their Canadian counterpart organization CSA. Solar Foods was selected as the international winner also on the previous phases I and II of the challenge. #deespacefoodchallenge #exploration #foodoutofthinair #solein #solarfoods

Last week, we reached a significant milestone in our mission to make Solein-powered products accessible to consumers globally. The Japanese food giant Ajinomoto Co., Inc. introduced two brand new delicacies, mooncakes and an ice cream sandwich, both powered by #Solein. Today, we’re exploring why Ajinomoto has chosen Solein as the lead ingredient to power the new products: 🟡 Why Solein? Because the Ajinomoto Group views the green food industry as an important growth sector. As part of their strategy, Ajinomoto promotes the co-creation of new food ingredients and food systems, including protein, with low environmental impact. In the Atlr.72™️ Mooncakes and Ice Cream Sandwich, Solein serves as a dairy substitute, reducing their environmental footprint. Furthermore, Solein plays an integral role in enriching the consistency of the ice cream. The other ingredients in these novelties have also been selected with a focus on health and environmental sustainability. 🌏 What does the future bring? Following a limited sales period, Ajinomoto plans to broaden the scope of the new brand, extending it from sweet products to everyday food, and expanding its reach beyond Singapore to other countries and regions. Exciting news! Today marks a significant milestone as the Japanese food giant Ajinomoto Co., Inc. launches an entirely new brand, Atlr.72™, paving the way for their green food business. The first ever products for the new brand are two mouthwatering delicacies powered by #Solein: an array of Flowering Mooncakes in diverse flavours and an irresistible ice cream sandwich. Last year, we entered a strategic alliance with the Ajinomoto Group, aiming to bring Solein-powered products to consumers. After piloting the products, the Ajinomoto Group is looking into the possibility of expansion into different countries and regions. Currently, the Ajinomoto Group is a global powerhouse and its products are available in over 130 countries and regions all over the world. As #Solein can be produced virtually anywhere in the world, many have wondered, why we chose to build our #Factory01 in Finland. The answer is that Finland has several characteristics that made it a good location for our first factory. One is the wide availability of green power: access to electricity from renewable and low-carbon sources is important for Solein production. Another factor is the environmental conditions. Finland’s growth season is relatively short and the cold season relatively long. This makes the country a great location to showcase that Solein can be viably grown year-round even in adverse weather conditions. The fact that we are also familiar with local Finnish bureaucracy and processes also helps. Learn more about Factory 01: https://lnkd.in/dfXJc-fQ #foodofthefuture #outofthinair #NextGenEU
