They say numbers don’t lie, but let’s be real… they can be pretty boring (some of us are just not math people, okay?!) 🙂↔️  At Vantaa Talent Hack Day, we from Startup Refugees brought forward a challenge: How do we showcase impact beyond just stats and spreadsheets?  Four teams took it on and the talent in that room was unreaaaaaal. So many fresh, creative and mind-blowing ideas. It was like watching MasterChef of innovation, just with more snacks, computers and post-it notes. 🧑🍳✨  And then there was our winning team. 🥁 They didn’t even plan to compete but jumped in at the last minute, spending most of their time working with just pen and paper. Somehow, they still delivered a spontaneous, concrete, and deeply human way to show that impact is about people and their experiences, emotions, and stories. Not just numbers. Shoutout to Ammattiopisto Varia's International Tourism students: Atefa Rezayee, Angel Gill, dawda jaye & Ujjwal Timsina, who proved that sometimes all you need is perspective, social media and maybe a well-placed sticky note. 🫶  Huge thanks to Vantaan kaupunki - Vanda stad - City of Vantaa, Business Vantaa & Ultrahack for this fantastic collaboration and to all the incredible teams who absolutely crushed it. 🌟 Greetings from Talent Hack Day 2025! 🌟 Yesterday was a whirlwind of action and innovation at Vantaa Startup Runway! 🚀 Around 40 international students and talents gathered to tackle challenges from Vaisala, Paahtu, and Startup Refugees. The results were nothing short of impressive, with innovative solutions and ideas emerging in just one day! 💡 A huge shoutout to all the challenge owners and hackers who brought their best attitudes, and to Ultrahack for partnering with us. 🙌 Special thanks to the Ammattiopisto Varia tourism students for their invaluable help with the practicalities. And guess what? 🌟 Talent Hack Day 2025 - Kiitos kaikille osallistujille! 🌟 Viime torstai 6.3.2025 oli täynnä toimintaa ja innovaatioita Talent Hack Day 2025 -tapahtumassa. 🚀 Vantaa Startup Runwaylla kokoontui noin 40 lahjakasta kansainvälistä opiskelijaa ratkaisemaan haasteita, joita haasteiden omistajayritykset Vaisala, Paahtu ja Startup Refugees olivat asettaneet. Vain muutamassa tunnissa syntyi tuoreita ideoita ja näkökulmia, jotka johtivat vaikuttaviin lopputuloksiin. 💡 Innovatiivisten ratkaisujen kehittämisen lisäksi Talent Hack Day vahvisti kansainvälistä yhteisöä tarjoamalla ainutlaatuisen alustan kansainvälisille opiskelijoille, vastavalmistuneille ja ammattilaisille. Last week, I had the incredible chance to take part in Talent Hack Day 2025, an exciting #hackathon organized by Ultrahack, in collaboration with Vantaan kaupunki - Vanda stad - City of Vantaa and Business Vantaa. The event brought together international talents to tackle real-world challenges, collaborate in diverse teams, and connect with potential employers - all in just one day!🌟 I joined because I was particularly drawn to the challenges presented by companies like Vaisala, Startup Refugees, and Paahtu, who were actively participating in the event. I wanted to challenge myself by working on something exciting, and it was the perfect opportunity to meet new people and spend the day with a group of motivated and talented individuals.💫 I contributed to Paahtu’s case, where we focused on optimizing coffee waste collection routes. Our goal was to figure out an efficient way to collect 1,000 kg of used coffee grounds daily, making sure the process stayed fast, sustainable, and scalable, even with fluctuating supply levels. Contributing to a sustainable initiative like this was something I couldn't pass up as it fits perfectly with my passion for supply chain management and sustainability. It was so interesting to explore different logistics strategies, work through real-world constraints, and refine our ideas through discussions with Paahtu’s representatives. The teamwork was amazing, too - everyone brought fresh perspectives and creative solutions to the table, making the whole experience even more rewarding!🔥 🔹 Key Takeaways: ✨ Expanded my network and made valuable connections ✨ Boosted my confidence in problem-solving and creativity ✨ Learned just how powerful collaboration is in a high-energy environment Big thanks to the organizers, facilitators, and fellow participants for making this event such a success! How can modular construction be reimagined to support Ukraine’s reconstruction? EDU 3.0 — a collaboration between Go Local in Ukraine, Urban Mill and Ultrahack from Finland, and Brand Manual from Estonia, supported by the European Commission — set out to answer this question. Initially, the focus was on modular housing as a rapid response to the housing crisis. But as the project evolved, three key insights emerged that are shaping a more effective and sustainable approach: Community First: Modular housing isn’t just a technical challenge—it’s about people. Genuine community involvement ensures that solutions are livable, culturally relevant, and free from negative Soviet-era associations. Decentralised Production: Instead of a single factory model, a network of local producers working with standardised components enables flexibility, scalability, and resilience—critical in a post-war context. National Standards: A shared framework for modular components (joints, panels, dimensions) fosters competition, specialisation, and efficiency—making modular construction more practical and adaptable. Beyond technical solutions, EDU 3.0 has created a collaborative network of experts committed to making modular housing work for Ukraine.
