The United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research began operations in 1985 in Helsinki, Finland, as the first research centre of the United Nations University. Today it is a unique blend of think tank, research institute, and UN agency – providing a range of services from policy advice to governments as well as freely available original research coordinated by a core group of resident and non-resident researchers and undertaken by a global network of collaborators.

🌾 Our latest journal article about COVID-19’s impact on farmers in Uganda: Our recent study highlights how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected smallholder farmers differently than the rest of the population in Uganda. We found that: ↘️ The income of farm households dropped more significantly compared to non-farm households during the pandemic. 💰Farm households relied on savings to make ends meet 🍚 Food consumption decreased to cope with less income This research is crucial for developing strategies to help farmers better handle agricultural risks and future pandemics.
