#HotOffThePress - Wärtsilä has been awarded the prototyping tender for the revolutionary Next Generation Vessel Traffic Management System (NGVTMS) project by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) which is set to transform maritime safety and efficiency at one of the world's busiest ports. As Singapore continues to elevate its status as a global maritime hub, the increasing traffic volumes highlight the need for more sophisticated and proactive traffic management solutions. Over the next 15 months, Wärtsilä will collaborate at the MPA's Maritime Innovation Lab 2.0. Wärtsilä’s focus will be on developing a system with an open architecture enhanced by advanced features, including data analytics to pinpoint traffic hotspots and machine learning algorithms capable of predicting potential collisions. “The NGVTMS initiative represents a collaborative venture aimed at redefining the future of maritime traffic management through advanced technology and shared expertise. #HotOffThePress - Wärtsilä will upgrade the exhaust treatment system onboard four vessels in Norwegian operator Color Line's fleet. As maritime's drive for energy efficiency and emissions reductions become ever more urgent, ship owners and operators are seeking solutions which will help them to optimise vessel performance and reach sustainability targets. The upgrade to a hybrid scrubber system onboard these ships will give Color Line control over any abatement from the scrubber wash water, ensuring its vessels remain compliant with tightening regulations.  “Through adopting a modular approach, continuous research and development, as well as prioritising innovation, we are fully committed to developing abatement solutions which support the industry in its goals for reducing its emissions footprint. #HotOffThePress - We are excited to announce that Wärtsilä has signed a contract with Norwegian shipowner Eidesvik Offshore ASA to supply the equipment for the conversion of an offshore PSV to operate with ammonia fuel. The vessel, ‘Viking Energy’, which is on contract to energy major Equinor, is scheduled for conversion in early 2026 and is expected to start operating on ammonia in the first half of 2026, becoming the world’s first ammonia-fuelled in-service ship. Wärtsilä will supply the engine and complete fuel gas supply system and exhaust after-treatment needed for the conversion, making it also the first vessel to use Wärtsilä’s recently released ammonia solution.   With ammonia a promising alternative fuel for the shipping industry, as it looks for more sustainable fuel options, Håkan Agnevall, President and CEO of Wärtsilä highlights the importance of cross-industry collaboration:  “In just 25 years – the lifetime of a single vessel – shipping needs to get to net zero emissions. Achieving this will require coordinated action by all maritime industry stakeholders to bring about the system change needed to accept a new generation of sustainable fuels.    “With this new contract, together with Eidesvik, Wärtsilä is proud to be at the forefront of this movement. Decarbonisation is front and centre of our strategy and we are committed to developing and delivering sustainable solutions which not only ensure the viability of sustainable fuels, but also their safety.”   This latest partnership is a result of the ‘Apollo’ project which is co-funded by the Horizon Europe framework programme.
