📢 Our call on “Biodiversity and Transformative Change” (#BiodivTransform) is now open! For this call we are taking a slightly different, bottom-up approach, which means that we have deliberately not defined research themes! However, we emphasise the importance of a holistic approach. Research projects are expected to be inter- and transdisciplinary, and/or cross-sectoral, mobilising as appropriate natural sciences, technical sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts. In the same spirit, the call is not limited to specific environments or geographical areas. 🎯 With this call, we aim to better: • Understand the trade-offs and cross-linkages between the global crises of biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution; • Identify, analyse and understand transformation processes that can safeguard biodiversity and the benefits it can provide to people. 📢 Survey results: Paving the way for innovation in biodiversity monitoring We're glad to share the results of our recent survey exploring the use of five novel technologies in biodiversity monitoring: bioacoustics, camera traps, eDNA, drones and sensor networks. By gathering insights from our partners, we've identified key areas for improvement and opportunities for collaboration. Just a few takeaways:  • The use of these five technologies varies significantly, but each method is fully deployed by at least one of our partners, meaning the Partnership could build on that experience.  • Camera traps and eDNA are the most widely used technologies, while sensor networks are the least widely used.  • Drones and bioacoustics are somewhere in the middle. However, they prove to be very versatile, monitoring most of the targeted Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs).  • There's more emphasis on monitoring species and community level EBVs than ecosystem level EBVs.  • Data issues are the most common constraints. Addressing data storage, analysis and integration is essential for effective monitoring.  • Also essential: capacity building! There's a strong need for training, exchange of experience and development of common standards, protocols and tools to overcome technical challenges and reduce costs. • Initiatives such as eLTER and EBOCC (EU Biodiversity Observation Coordination Centre) can play a crucial role in supporting the adoption of such technologies. 📢 The preliminary results of our #BiodivNBS call are out! 🙌 We’re very pleased to share the shortlist of 34 projects recommended for funding! These projects will explore the tipping points, trade-offs, and mechanisms influencing Nature-based Solutions and their implementation. In total, 183 eligible pre-proposals and 108 full proposals were received and evaluated by an independent Evaluation Committee. Following this ranking, 34 research projects have been shortlisted for funding, pending final decisions by all participating funding organisations.
