[More than a job 💛] Live from the field, meet Nikola! Over the next few weeks, we will be shining a spotlight on the COLAS Hrvatska team members behind our work on the A11 highway. The project involves building a 10-km (over 6 miles) extension from Zagreb southward to Sisak. This new stretch will help bolster economic development in the region by connecting it to the Croatian capital. First up is Nikola, who joined Colas right after graduating school. Nearly six years later, he’s moved through the ranks to reach his current role of civil engineer! Nikola, who has been involved in the A11 project since its origins about three years ago, says he’s proud of the work he and the teams have completed. “When we first started, it was all fields. Now, it’s a great feeling when you can drive along the highway and see it all done, when you can look back on challenges and laugh because they’ve been overcome.” Click through the below slideshow to learn more about Nikola’s contributions! #ColasDares #CreatingConnections #WeOpenTheWay

This week, Colas attended the Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Conference and Awards, an event dedicated to promoting gender diversity and celebrating the outstanding contributions made by women, teams, and organisations in the industry. The day was filled with engaging presentations and interactive panels led by thought-leaders in the sector, each sharing valuable insights and experiences. Networking sessions allowed participants to connect and exchange ideas, fostering collaboration and support among peers. Sarah Yates, Senior Bid Writer at Colas, joined the ‘Progressing EDI across the Sector’ session, highlighting the work we’re doing to create more equitable environments for women on our sites and contracts through improved sanitary facilities and opening the conversation around women’s health. As part of the awards ceremony, Colas was highly commended in the 'Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing' category for our 'Period Dignity: Ending the Stigma' campaign, which focuses on the importance of normalising conversations about gender-based health disparities, and empowering women to discuss their periods openly in the workplace. #IWCE2024 #ColasCares #ColasShares

[Our own way 🙌] Does something seem unusual to you? In the below photos, you can see an asphalt mix worksite in Fairbanks, Alaska. Team members are wearing their PPE, pavement is being milled and leveled and machines are taking turns applying new surfacing. At first glance, this roadway repair project intended to ensure accessibility and road safety for local communities looks like a classic Colas construction site… except it’s nearly midnight! In Alaska, teams rely on the long hours of sunlight in the summer to carry out as many projects as possible before winter weather halts all construction. In Fairbanks, which is located just below the Arctic Circle, the sun shines for up to 20 hours a day in the summer. Known as the "midnight sun," this phenomenon allows Colas teams to complete "night" construction work under safer conditions, similar to those during the day, with reduced traffic. #ColasDares #WeOpenTheWay #CreatingConnections Colas USA

Local road users in the NSW Hunter Region can enjoy a smoother drive as our Tomago paving team wraps up their latest project! In an impressive effort, they laid down 66 tons of AC14HD over a sprawling 1,146m² to ensure the pavement heights along the gutters were spot on for a smooth ride before adding the final wearing course. They also covered another 285 tons across 2,520m² for that finishing touch. Working on a major bus route brought its fair share of hurdles, but our crew navigated these challenges skilfully, keeping disruptions to residents and bus services to a minimum. Congrats to everyone involved! #COLAS #Australia #Asphalt #Road #WeOpenTheWay

[Our highlights 💛] Preserving Our Heritage 🏛 European Heritage Days are here! To mark the occasion, we’re highlighting some emblematic projects Colas has undertaken to preserve and showcase the heritage of routes, networks and connections… which is, after all, one of the themes of the 2024 edition 😉 From improving accessibility in Paris’ Tuileries Garden with our renovation of the Fer à Cheval ramps, in partnership with the Louvre Museum, to building a bicycle lane in the Kings' North Zealand National Park in Denmark (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Colas teams are opening the way with a blend of tradition and modernity. Even though this weekend is specifically dedicated to European Heritage Days, preserving heritage is a year-round endeavor at Colas. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as one of the Group’s three values is Caring. We even have a skill-sharing patronage program with a focus on preserving historical monuments, to which we apply our skills, expertise, specific techniques and solutions to promote responsible development. Take a tour across Europe with us and check out a handful of our heritage preservation projects by clicking below 👇 #CreatingConnections #ColasCares #WeOpenTheWay

[Our own way 🙌] Building bridges in Côte d’Ivoire ! The brand-new Alassane Ouattara bridge was recently inaugurated in Guiglo, in the west of the country. Built by our Colas Afrique teams, this pre-stressed concrete bridge is replacing the previous bridge that had been in use since 1958 and had become accident-prone. Connecting the Cavally and Guémon regions, the new bridge will improve user safety, ease traffic for local residents and for transporting goods and contribute to local economic development. Some key figures: - A final structure that is over 350 feet long; - A deck width of nearly 50 feet; - Two lanes, each measuring about 12 feet wide; - Three spans; - Deep foundations measuring about 50 feet at the abutments and 23 feet at the supporting columns. #WeOpenTheWay #CreatingConnections #ColasCares
