Today's #WeLeadComms honoree is Tracey Maurer (Tracy M.), community manager at LumApps. Tracy’s career started in computer sales, where she developed her technical skills and learned to translate complex information into accessible insights. This experience paved the way for her transition into technical writing, business analysis, and product management roles. All of those roles required a lot of communication between people with different communication styles where she learned to interpret what the business wanted and to translate that into specifications for the developers. Now, Tracy runs the community intranet at LumApps – drawing from her THIRTEEN!!! years of experience managing corporate intranets – where she helps communications professionals strategically harness the full potential of their intranets. For Tracy, content creation is not just about the platform—it's about understanding and responding to the audience. “When you are writing, always try to put yourself in the shoes of the person who is going to read what you just wrote. Be honest with yourself - would you read it? Or would it be a tl;dr moment? And if the latter, go back and be merciless in your editing!” She champions the use of metrics and honest feedback to refine and enhance communication strategies continually. “People are always quick to blame the platform when their content doesn’t perform well. Sometimes all of us (me included) have to take a hard look at the metrics and accept the feedback from our audience.” Her favorite part of the job? “I love that many are in their roles to help others. Their passion is inspiring and keeps me going, even during my own rough patches.
