Exciting news for the scientific community! Congratulations to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for being awarded this year’s The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their groundbreaking discovery of microRNA and its crucial role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. At Micropep, we’re proud to work at the intersection of microRNA and micropeptide technology, using it to develop innovative solutions and helping to shape the future of sustainable agriculture. https://lnkd.in/gi94SQ4c #NobelPrize #MicroRNA #agtech #sustainability #micropeptides

African soils are deteriorating rapidly in part due to over-fertilization, but Legume Technology thinks they have the solution. They are developing an interesting new product that restores soils by applying nitrogen-fixing bacteria and fungi to plants. It won the company a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant to support further development. The funds will go towards revising packaging to meet small farms' needs and develop products that can go on non-leguminous crops. Recently, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued an emergency order to stop the use of weedkiller dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate (aka DCPA or Dacthal), calling it “so dangerous that it needs to be removed from the market immediately.” This indicates that as the weedkiller market evolves, alternative products are essential. Such shifts are driving the rapid growth of biological crop protection solutions, though there remains a need for greater farmer education. This article from Global Ag Tech Initiative has an important message for farmers who want to forego using captan or other multisite fungicides in favor of biological crop protection approaches. You’ll have the most success if you use modern farming practices and space your plants in such a way that it creates an airy environment not conducive to fungal infractions. To learn more about how to maximize the effects of your biological control products, read the article. #AgTech #BiologicalCrop Protection https://lnkd.in/evjgn4Mw

The Biologicals market is growing fast! A recent study covered in Morning Ag Clips revealed that farmers’ knowledge and use of biological crop protection products is up since the last benchmark study in 2022. In fact, row crop farmers report their use of innovative crop inputs increased by 8 percentage points over the last two years. ⚠ A few months ago, I mentioned to Renee Targos during an interview for Agribusiness Global (Meister Media Worldwide) that one of the major problems we have in the #CropProtection industry is the lack of common language to talk about product development. 👉Contrary to the pharmaceutical industry where the different drug discovery phases are well established and understood by the whole #Startup + #VC + Big Corporation ecosystem, companies in the crop protection space are using different terms to talk about R&D phases. This creates confusion and slows down collaboration and partnership. There was no “#Playbook” available in the Ag space to guide new companies. 🙌 At least that was the case until yesterday when the first “#AgPlaybook” has finally been released! This white paper playbook is the result of an open collaboration between many leaders in our industry to finally "standardize" and clearly describe the different phases of Product Development of a new crop protection molecule. The first chapter released yesterday focuses on chemical crop protection products, but I’m sure others will follow in due time for #biologicals and #biochemicals molecules. 👏 A big congrats to Paimun (PJ) Amini from Leaps by Bayer who led this initiative and managed to gather and unite an incredibly diverse team of entrepreneurs and industry leaders from different companies around it. Go take a look 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8HR4suf and from now on let’s all start referring to these “5 phases” when talking about Crop protection product development!
