🌐 At Datacloud - a techoraco brand Energy & ESG Europe 2025 yesterday, James Bowyer joined industry leaders to discuss how nuclear energy - particularly advanced technologies like SMRs - could support the growing power demands of data centres.     💬 “Great discussion yesterday – it is clear that nuclear, especially SMRs and AMRs, can have a key role to play in providing the stable low carbon energy needed to support global data centre expansion. There is a great opportunity for both sectors to work together on matter such as siting, closing the STEM skills gap and supply chain development. However, the only way we can make nuclear powered data centres a reality in the timescales needed is for both sectors to have a joined up cross industry approach to deployment.” - James Bowyer, Project Director at newcleo 💡 The discussion explored key challenges, including regulatory frameworks, cost, and public perception, as well as the urgency of developing viable solutions at scale. 🇮🇹 We were honoured to welcome Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, and Emanuele Orsini, President of Confindustria, to our joint research centre at ENEA-Brasimone today. Here, we are testing innovative materials and building our first 10 MW non-nuclear reactor, which is set to be completed by 2026. ⚛️ This visit took place just days after the Italian Council of Ministers approved a delegated act that will enable Italy to reintroduce nuclear energy into its energy mix. It stands as a testament to the Government’s commitment to exploring new and sustainable nuclear technologies that can enhance the country’s energy independence, security, and affordability. 🤝 Following the visit, we were also honoured to host the second meeting of Confindustria’s Steering Committee on Nuclear Energy, chaired by Aurelio Regina, where key industry leaders came together to discuss a unified approach to supporting nuclear energy’s return to Italy. 💡 The Ministers were joined by Vincenzo Colla (Regione Emilia-Romagna), Stefano Buono, Elisabeth Rizzotti, and Luciano Cinotti from newcleo, as well as ENEA’s Giorgio Graditi, Alessandro Dodaro, and Mariano Tarantino. #newcleo #NewNuclear #Innovation #Research #Italy
