🚶♀️🌳 How could we address the issues related visitors' flows in the Calanques national Park (Parc national des Calanques) applying a behavioural lens? In our latest article of our series about #behaviouralinsights and #sustainabletourism, on the esteemed italian blog Officina Turistica, ✏️Giulia David from AVITEM gives some insights on this topic, providing a summary of our final conference held on the 29th November with Claire Dale and Frédérique Figueroa.

📽[Visual pills - Episode 16] This is our last visual pill! We hope you enjoyed this series 😊 #Nudges and #behaviouralinsights represent a powerful third approach to promoting sustainable #tourism, alongside regulation and persuasion. Virtually every problem associated with a tourism destination is a behavioural problem. For example, if we have a littered beach, we can put in place regulations and infrastructure, but in order to really solve the problem we should also address human behaviour. Boosting nudging capacity requires a number of skills from the perspective of policy and decision makers. Nudges should not be seen as stand-alone tools. They should be integrated with other policy and organisational tools in the long term. This video is part of a series about the application of behavioural approaches to tourism, produced within the Nudge My Tour project. ➡ Watch them all on our YouTube channel: https://t.ly/4HAus Video production and animation: formicablu Illustrations by: ✏️Giulia David, AVITEM Under the supervision of University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna) With the participation of all Nudge My Tour partners: Università degli Studi di Padova, AVITEM, Centre national de la fonction publique territoriale (CNFPT), Institut za turizam, iNudgeyou –The Applied Behavioural Science Centre Universitat de Girona Co-funded by Agence Erasmus+ France / Education & Formation European Commission Erasmus Mundus Programme

🖍 [Visual pills - Episode 15] When it comes to promoting sustainable behaviour in tourism, nudging and behavioural interventions are not only relevant when people are in the destination; they can be relevant at all stages of the tourists' user journey, because decisions that impact sustainability also happen before and after the trip. 🖍 [Visual pills - Episode 14] Building the capacity of an organisation to develop and test behavioural interventions means providing tools an knowledge that allow to: - analyse the context to detect a behavioural problem - act on choice architecture in order to make the most sustainable option the easiest to choose / most attractive - evaluate a nudge and its impact - ...and much more! Nudging capacity can be build at many levels of an organisation. 🖍 [Visual pills - Episode 13] An effective #nudge or any other type of behavioural measure must always be based on evidence, and on a clear definition of the behavioural problem we want to tackle. Testing the measure is an essential step to ensure its effectiveness, before scaling it up. Our partners at iNudgeyou –The Applied Behavioural Science Centre have developed the BASIC© Framework, a comprehensive set of guidelines, tools and methods for developing Behavioural Public Policy from the beginning to the end of a behavioural insights (BI) project. Developed through almost a decade of research by Pelle Guldborg Hansen, BASIC stands for 'Behaviour', 'Analysis', 'Strategies', 'Intervention', and 'Change' (Hansen & OECD 2019). This infographic summarises the BASIC Framework, providing the key questions that guide each step of the process. Seaside or mountains? Hotel or camping? Travelling by train or by plane? In the new article of our series published on the Italian blog Officina Turistica, our brilliant colleagues Marta Caserotti and Enrico Rubaltelli from the Università degli Studi di Padova help us understand some of the dynamics behind our decisions when we travel. Are our decisions always rational? (Spoiler: they are not!) Mare o montagna? Hotel o campeggio? Treno o aereo?

📽[Visual pills - Episode 12] Nudges and other behavioural interventions can be used to increase the chances that the most sustainable option is selected by most people. In order to be effective, a #nudge or any type of behavioural intervention should always be evidence based and tested according to a sound methodology. This video explains what a nudge is (and what it is not!), and gives some examples of nudges in #tourism.

🖍 [Visual pills - Episode 11] A Nudge is a gentle push towards a desired action, based on evidence-based knowledge of the mechanisms in our brain (heuristics, cognitive biases...) that influence our choices. A nudge does not limit our freedom of choice. The first definition of a nudge comes from Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein: "A nudge, as we will use the term, is any aspect of the choice architecture that alters people’s behavior in a predictable way without forbidding any options or significantly changing their economic incentives. To count as a mere nudge, the intervention must be easy and cheap to avoid. Nudges are not mandates. Putting fruit at eye level counts as a nudge. Banning junk food does not" These two infographics from our Informative Toolkit aim to visually explain the concept of nudge, using some examples that can be applied to the #tourism context. 🖍 [Visual pills - Episode 10] When we make quick decisions, our brain uses shortcuts to simplify our thinking. However, these shortcuts can lead to errors in judgement and cause cognitive biases... more often than what we think! This infographic from the Nudge My Tour Informative Toolkit explains this concept and gives some examples of heuristics that can be very common in the context of #tourism.
