ORAJe had the honour to take part in the jury of the USAIRE Student Awards 2024, represented by Arthur N. (Secretary) and Quitterie Magnin de Montlivault (Vice President). The session, led by Thibaud Figueroa, was animated by many constructive debates, at the end of which 5 teams were designated as the laureates of this year’s Student Awards. The jury unanimously underlined the high quality of the 10-pagers submitted. This moment was the concretisation of months of work on ORAJe’s side, conducted by board members Héloïse Conte, Arthur N., Bastien CONTI and Quitterie Magnin de Montlivault, on the 10-pager anonymisation, evaluation, and preparation of the jury session. Congratulations to the 5 teams of laureates, and to all finalists for their outstanding work 👏 The jury was followed by a luncheon in the presence of Michael Whitaker, Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration. Mr Whitaker talked about challenges relative to the missions of the FAA such as certification, energy transition, air traffic control management, and many more. ORAJe would like to express its gratefulness to Mr Whitaker for sharing his insights on the missions of the FAA, and to USAIRE for opening this extraordinary luncheon to ORAJe members.

ORAJe members had the privilege of meeting Jürgen Westermeier, Chief Procurement Officer of Airbus, in Toulouse! Jürgen Westermeier shared Airbus' top priorities to navigate the ramp-up successfully. He shared valuable insights on the current and future challenges of the supply chain. A wonderful chat with Bruno Verzotti, MBDA Future Systems Director!   ORAJe members working at MBDA gathered around Bruno over lunch to explore a wide range of topics, including sovereignty, innovation, the challenge of scale, cooperation, and industrial partnerships. ORAJe members had the privilege of meeting Emmanuel Chiva, head of DGA - Direction générale de l'armement, during the USAIRE Luncheon on September 16th.   Mr. Chiva spoke about lessons from the war in Ukraine, France’s defense planning, strategies for the defense industrial base, and international cooperation, among other key topics. 🚀 An incredible visit to ArianeGroup's Vernon site! ORAJe had the great opportunity to visit ArianeGroup's historic Vernon site, a cornerstone of European space exploration. This visit came at the perfect time, right after the successful inaugural flight of Ariane 6 in July. Exploring the behind-the-scenes work that brought this monumental achievement to life was truly inspiring. Highlights included:    • A tour of the showroom featuring past and cutting-edge space technologies    • The integration of the Vinci upper stage engine    • A close look at the Vulcain 2.1 engine integration line    • Test facilities for the Vulcain and Prometheus engines Many thanks to the dedicated teams of ArianeGroup for their warm welcome and for sharing their passion for space innovations! La semaine dernière, j'ai eu le plaisir de dîner avec Les Jeunes IHEDN et des membres de l'association ORAJe. Ces deux associations ont entre autte en commun de développer, partager et transmettre l'engagement des jeunes sur les questions de défense. Nous avons échangé sur les coopérations utilisées comme un levier des souverainetés nationales européennes ou encore de l'innovation de défense et ses liens avec l'industrie civile. Nous avons aussi analysé les défis industriels auxquels nous devons faire face pour soutenir nos nations dans le contexte du retour de la guerre en Europe. Leur enthousiasme et leur curiosité m'ont rappelé l'importance de la transmission du savoir et de l'inspiration mutuelle entre générations. Par leur engagement associatif, je suis convaincu que ces jeunes porteront haut les valeurs de notre secteur. Merci à Héloïse, Paul et Alexandre d'avoir organisé cette riche soirée. Certains enseignent bénévolement le Brevet d'Initation Aéronautique dans les collèges et les lycées, et l'association porte un projet de mentorat pour Un Jeune Une Solution.

What a day for the new ORAJe members!   Finalists gathered at the #ParisAirForum for a series of thought-provoking conferences, gaining invaluable insights for their final 10-page submissions in the USAIRE competition. The day's highlight was the Welcome Dinner, hosted right after the forum by ORAJe President Héloïse Conte. This event provided an excellent opportunity to network and warmly welcome the new members into the association. The atmosphere was electric as attendees connected, exchanged ideas, and celebrated their shared #passion for aviation.   Our event was greatly enriched by the presence of Stéphane Cueille, CEO of Safran Electrical & Power, as this year's sponsor. Mr. Cueille brought a unique perspective and inspired all attendees with his vision and leadership.   Earlier in the day, the competition seminar saw USAIRE President CARL CHEVILLON, alongside Board members Thibaud Figueroa and Arnaud Marfurt, detail the expectations for the contestants. Previous Student Awards winners, Laora Malet and Paul GOURTAY, shared their advice, further inspiring the finalists.   Our heartfelt thanks go to Safran, La Tribune, and USAIRE for their invaluable support in making this day a tremendous success.   As we reflect on this remarkable day, we are truly impressed by the enthusiasm and determination shown by the new ORAJe cohort. 🌟 Last Wednesday, ORAJe members, along with Les Jeunes IHEDN members, had the incredible opportunity to visit Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport! 🛫 Thanks to the outstanding efforts of the airport teams (CDGR and CDGB), the day was filled with engaging and educational experiences.   We were treated to a comprehensive program that showcased essential airport operations, including technical runway inspection and baggage handling processes. Our members also enjoyed insightful presentations from various critical departments such as the Aerodrome Fire Fighting Service and the Operations Center. Additionally, they had the chance to receive feedback on an experiment conducted with Taxibot to improve airside operations from an environmental perspective.   This visit provided a unique behind-the-scenes look at the airport, made possible by the dedication and expertise of the airport employees. ORAJe members had the pleasure to meet Simon Newitt, President and CCO of Heart Aerospace, during the last USAIRE Luncheon on Friday, May 24th. Simon presented Heart Aerospace and developed its vision on the opportunities and challenges for its company to enter the regional electric market. Its future aircraft called the ES-30 will be battery electric powered and could transport 30 PAX over a range of 200 km (all electric range). The type certification target is 2028. We sincerely thank Simon for sharing his industry knowledge and insights with us. And many thanks to USAIRE for the great opportunities they have always provided for ORAJe members!
