🛫 Thales is to lead the DECOR research project to test solutions for lowering the environmental impact of flight operations. With the support of the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC), the DECOR project brings together ten key players to carry out large-scale demonstrations of digital solutions designed to facilitate ground/air collaboration to reduce the environmental impact of flight operations without compromising safety.   💬 Yannick Assouad, Executive Vice President Avionics, Thales: “This latest illustration of Thales’s commitment to tackling climate change is a practical, large-scale demonstration of the French air transport industry’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact. 50 years of the smart card = 50 years of innovation, but it doesn’t stop there! In the past 50 years, we’ve witnessed a remarkable evolution in smart card technology as it’s become an essential part of our daily lives, securing our passports, credit cards, SIM cards and more. But 50 years doesn’t mean the end, in fact, I believe the #SmartCard has a great future ahead for many reasons: 👨💻 The smart card has shown a remarkable ability to adapt itself to market changes and technological developments. From the introduction of new form factors, where we saw a move from the traditional ISO size used in banking, to the smaller sizes required for #IoT. Then there’s the adoption of new tech, like the move to more secure elements, inserted into hundreds of millions of smart phones and connected objects across the planet. Or if we look to the future, the integration of Post-Quantum technologies and #AI, or new use cases like the EUDI wallet – the opportunities are endless. 🧠 We also can’t underestimate the knowledge built over the past 50 years while working with the smart card. A smart card is, by essence, a very strong authentication device, one of the fundamental services to render in #Cybersecurity. It contains renewable secret keys and upgradable algorithms enabling connectivity to mobile and payment networks, or access to state borders or company data servers. Providing this level of security over the years has meant we’ve developed strong expertise in #cryptography, knowledge that will not only contribute to the product’s own future, but will also benefit other fields and solutions. 💳 Now more than ever, there is recognition of the value and need for a dedicated, certifiable, and tamper-resistant #hardware such as the smart card. My colleagues at our Gémenos and La Ciotat sites have been fortunate to witness the countless developments of the smart card, and I’m sure will see many more, as Thales continues to lead the way in redefining the right balance between security and user convenience.
