Our endeavour with respect to arts was commensurate with our will to live.” - Viktor Ullman Today, on January 27, 2025, we commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, honoring the millions of lives lost and forever changed by one of history's darkest chapters. In concentration camps like Auschwitz and Theresienstadt, music became both a tool of oppression and a beacon of hope. Official camp orchestras were forced to play, as prisoners marched to grueling labor. Viktor Ullmann, an Austro-Hungarian composer born in 1898, embodies this artistic resilience in the face of Nazi oppression. Interned at Theresienstadt in 1942, he composed over 20 works there, including the opera "The Emperor of Atlantis". This one-act piece told the story of an emperor declaring total war, leading to Death refusing to cooperate. We remember not only the victims but also the indomitable human spirit that allowed art and music to flourish even in the depths of despair. 🏥🎭 The Nutcracker: a magical and unforgettable moment for nursing homes and care facilities! 🎭🏥 We are thrilled to start the year by announcing a great success: more than 340 care homes and hospitals, from 60 different groups, have signed up for our Watch-Party! 🥳 The goal of this event was to give these establishments the opportunity to discover the ballet The Nutcracker, and offer residents a moment of beauty and culture. 🎭✨ Among the participants, we had the pleasure of welcoming groups such as Bupa, Leonard Cheshire, Cinnamon Care Collection, Nellsar Care Homes, NHS Derby and many more! A big thank you to them for their participation and positive feedback. Here’s a testimonial that perfectly illustrates the essence of what we aimed to offer with this experience: “Our residents enjoyed this fantastic show on Christmas Eve. Growing up fully immersed in the digital world, they’ve transformed how music is discovered and enjoyed. 💜 Student Pulse is a user-friendly platform designed for students to discover discounted tickets for classical music concerts. As the second season managing Student Pulse comes to an end, we are thrilled to see the continued growth and impact of this initiative. Student Pulse, a project that started over a decade ago with London’s leading orchestras and venues— the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Southbank Centre, Barbican Centre, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Cadogan Hall, and St John’s Smith Square— has once again played a vital role in welcoming young audiences to experience the magic of London’s most iconic concert halls. Reflecting on the season, here’s what we’ve learned about Gen Z’s concert-going habits: 💬 As a digital generation, they crave a sense of community, both online and in the concert hall. ⏳ They’re spontaneous—often booking last minute due to their busy social lives, but always making room for a concert. 🎻 This generation loves following renowned soloists, supporting them both at events and on social media. ⚡ Guided by emotion, we’ve introduced new ways to connect with them, from interactive quizzes to streaming, helping students find their perfect concert experience. We’re excited to continue this journey of bringing classical music to younger audiences. Here’s to Season 24/25 and beyond!
