WbS is an open resource and information platform to assist decision-makers in restoring and protecting coastal wetlands
À propos
The Mediterranean has lost more than 50% of its natural wetlands since 1970, and we continue to destroy them through poorly planned development and agricultural water abstraction. As climate change and population growth continue, saving and restoring what remains of these unique habitats is an urgent priority – but this does not have to come at the cost of socio-economic development. In fact, using our wetlands as nature-based solutions to some of our most pressing issues will benefit society just as much as the environment. Nevertheless, ensuring the survival of our coastal wetlands on a regional scale is a huge task and one that requires collaboration across the Mediterranean. This is why the Wetland-based Solutions project was created. It gathers together a powerful network of expert organisations working to preserve and restore Mediterranean wetlands, who pool their expertise and experiences to hone skills, identify successful solutions, raise awareness, and spread best practices across the basin.

Efforts to protect the endangered freshwater species at #BunaRiver #CoastalWetlands #SaveWetlands #RestoreWetlands
Conservation Efforts for Endangered Freshwater Species at Buna River On International Environment Day, in collaboration with local partners and students from "Lucë Agraja" School and "Pjetër Gaci" School, we organized a clean-up initiative to raise awareness about the endangered freshwater species in these cross-border areas. This initiative emphasized the importance of species such as the Adriatic Sturgeon (Acipenser naccarii) and the eel (Anguilla anguilla), highlighting the conservation measures necessary for their protection. The clean-up event took place at Buna River in Shkodër. The Protected Landscape of Buna in Velipojë is one of the most crucial ecosystems in the northern region of our country. Together, we cleaned the area and removed damaged and abandoned nets that pose a threat to fish and bird life. This effort is essential for the preservation of the Lake Shkodra and Buna-Velipoja River ecosystems, which are of exceptional scientific importance. We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in this vital initiative. #CEPF Photo Credits - Edvin Rushitaj
