PIARC is a global forum for exchange of knowledge and experience on roads and road transport policies and practices
À propos
PIARC (World Road Association), founded in 1909 and comprising +120 member governments from all over the world, is the global forum for exchange of knowledge and experience on roads and road transport policies and practices. (Note: PIARC is the acronym of the former name of the Association: Permanent International Association for Road Congresses). With consultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the Association is contributing to a stable and sustainable global development of the road and transport sector. A World Road Congress is organized every four years and gathers Ministers, decision-makers and thousands of experts to discuss the current challenges faced by the road sector, innovative approaches and best practices. The 27th edition was held in Prague (Czech Republic) in October 2023. It hosted about 50 sessions, a major exhibition, technical visits and a social program. The next XVIth World Winter Service and Road Resilience Congress will be held in Chambéry (France) in 2026. And Vancouver (Canada) has been chosen to host the next World Road Congress in 2027. With knowledge sharing as its primary goal, the Association coordinates Technical Committees and Task Forces which undertake studies, share experience and promote best practices on a broad range of areas of interest to the road and transport sector. An international seminar program is offered to low and middle income countries in support of sharing knowledge with high income countries. The outputs of these groups are a large number of reports, easily downloaded through the online knowledge base at our website. As a contribution to the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety, the Association has developed a Road Safety Manual, which was launched at the Seoul Congress in 2015. PIARC TC2.2 Meeting & Workshop Timisoara, Romania | October 22-25, 2024. I had the privilege of chairing the recent PIARC TC2.2 meeting and workshop in Timisoara, where our team of global experts gathered to address critical themes for rural and interurban roads. Over two days of discussions, we focused on: * Active Modes: Enhancing walking, cycling, and non-motorized transport solutions.´ * Road Safety: initiatives to improve safety across user groups—pedestrians, cyclists, and motorized users. * Technical Solutions: Exploring innovative and cost-effective materials for paved and unpaved roads. On October 24, our workshop on "Sustainable Rural and Interurban Road Network" included presentations from distinguished speakers, who shared case studies and new insights into making road networks more sustainable and inclusive. The event concluded with a technical visit on October 25 to rural roads in the Timisoara region. A huge thanks to all participants and speakers for their contributions and for the collective knowledge shared to advancing equity and accessibility in road infrastructure! #PIARC #ruralmobility #RoadSafety #SustainableInfrastructure #DiversityandInclusion

Technical Director & Head of Sustainability; Member of PIARC |Sustainability | Environmental Management | Carbon Management | Net Zero |
Spent the last few days in the Italian capital 🇮🇹, supported by Pell Frischmann, with my fellow members of PIARC - World Road Association Technical Committee 4.5 - Decarbonisation of Road Construction and Maintenance! A collaborative plenary session held between our TC and TC 4.6 (Road Design Standards), marked a significant step forward in the global effort to promote sustainability, use of smart technology and reducing the overall carbon footprint. 🌿 The sessions brought together international experts, government representatives, industry leaders and academics, who engaged in dynamic discussions around the future of sustainable infrastructure and the essential steps towards reducing carbon emissions. It has been inspiring to see the commitment from global champions in innovating for a greener, more sustainable future in transport infrastructure. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to ANAS SpA (Italian National Road Authority) and Gianluca Cossale, PhD for hosting us over the three days and sharing your knowledge and best practices. The planery meetings in Rome are a clear indication that the international road community is taking concrete steps toward reducing the environmental impact of infrastructure whilst ensuring that road networks remain safe, sustainable, efficient, and resilient in the face of future challenges. Thanks Louis Bettini for your leadership 👑, Fabio Pascali for your continued guidance and Miguel Caso Florez for supporting this very important initiative. Janusz Bohatkiewicz you were greatly missed. #Sustainability #Decarbonisation #RoadConstruction #PIARC #Infrastructure #Innovation #Rome #GlobalNetworking

Proud to be featured in the latest number of Routes/Roads, the #PIARC quarterly magazine on roads and road transport. Along with several other interesting articles on active mobility and cycling, this 402end edition of the magazine highlights the Special Report on Interurban Bicycle Infrastructure, "Biking for the Future", that Mr. Niels Hoe and myself produced not long ago. I also had the pleasure of writing up the introduction to the featured articles. Go have a read. Subscription is easy, should you not already be one of the readers. Thanks, Robin Sebille, Miguel Caso Florez & Patrick Mallejacq for bringing the importance of bicycling and active mobility to the attention of the global transportation eco-system. By the way; the magazine and our report are also available in French and Spanish. Merci, Gracias. https://lnkd.in/daiTc3Mj https://lnkd.in/dMUQcWtd
