[CORAL GUARDIAN VALUES] ➡️ Dans In everything we do, we make it a point of honour to remain authentic and true to our values. This starts with the importance of developing our own restoration methods that are adaptable to different contexts and evolve with our experience. 🙌 But above all through the creation of our unique model that characterises us: restoration through support for local communities. ___ [LES VALEURS CORAL GUARDIAN] ➡️ Dans toutes nos actions, nous mettons un point d’honneur à rester authentique et fidèle à nos valeurs. The work my fellow EiR Jane Dalton MBA FRSA and my personal shero, the esteemed and inimitable Radka Newton from Lancaster University have been doing on the I-connect project, which looks at transport in the Lancaster and Morecambe area is something that Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council need to pay close attention to! We are on the verge of losing 3 city centre car parks with no robust or viable transport alternatives. I don’t drive, and I have a hidden disability that means I have to rely on the poor public transport options currently available. Most of my car driving friends would not deign to be a “bus w*nker” with the current provision, for many of the reasons stated in Radka’s article. When I could walk easily, I found the path between Morecambe and Lancaster a very off putting space and often stuck to the main road. Not the most scenic walk! It is both great, and a shame, that Eden Morecambe has been such a driver for this close examination of how we navigate the space around us here. This is particularly timely as my customers who drive will be less inclined to come into town where it’s already a bunfight for a parking space at peak times. (I digress, but the consultation is open until 13 May - you can have your say here https://loom.ly/_aCwe88). Small businesses are such a huge part of what makes Lancaster and Morecambe special - making sure they can be accessed is something the local councils should be working together on. (Note - from the last consultation meeting for business owners, it transpired that City and County are NOT working together on the proposed parking changes at this time). Sorry Radka I kinda hijacked this to kvetch about current parking stitch. It is a really balanced article. Keep up the awesome work! Kamal E. Will we see pink dolphins in Morecambe Bay? The Eden Morecambe project brings big promise to our beautiful #lancashire. Our county is already very environmentally conscious and strives for further #sustainability #inclusivity and #accessibility. Biodiversity Action Plans for farms. Natural Capital surveyor. Weed and Pests monitoring and management. Citizen science educator. Awe hunter. Inventor #PopUpPuddle #BandicootMotel #RabbitMagnet #DunnartDen.
"Explore stories about threats facing our natural environment, and the people taking action to care for it." Very humbled to be one of only 23 stories about people and organizations in Victoria taking action for biodiversity conservation, chosen for the Victorian State of the Environment website. The story of my invention - the #BandicootMotel - is now available to read on the Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability website. I invented #BandicootMotels to solve a wicked problem that impacts just about every land manager in Australia. They have the smaller terrestrial biodiversity but also the introduced predators, the threats of wild fire, the increased weather temperature fluctuations, and a lack of time/ability/$ to address all of them all the time everywhere. #BandicootMotels were invented to help solve the problem of how to provide predator refuge for Southern Brown Bandicoots in a small Parks Victoria reserve at St Helens, Victoria. (ask Hon John Pandazopoulos - he has seen them in the site) For that population to increase they have to have more places to go to avoid predators. Its predators that are the biggest limiter on recovery of populations of Southern Brown Bandicoots. They can and do live on farmed land, urban land, industrial land, and plantation forests - IF they can find refuges from cats, foxes, dogs, and raptors. Ten were installed and left to acclimatize in the reserve with the ecology. Many now have moss growing on them. Thirty more are in the wider Moyne area. If a wildfire ever comes to those sites, there are places the wildlife know of that will help them avoid that fire. Pre-fire resilience actions that will survive a fire. I believe this is the way - before, not after a fire. But I also designed them to be able to be added quickly to #fire impacted places so that surviving species would have an increased chance of avoiding the #predators and thermal stress that comes with #exposure. Much of the bush-fire conservation recovery money is thrown out AFTER fires isn't it. #BandicootMotels are made for placement for years with NO maintenance. They don't #burn. They don't rot. They are strong. A fully grown Eastern Grey Kangaroo (80+ kg) can land on the top without damaging the motel or the kangaroo. They don't pollute with wire, shade cloth, star pickets, or nails that become a future hazard to wildlife, #emergency staff & vehicles, volunteers, and land owners. The place for the #BandicootMotel as long term predator, climate, and emergency #refuge for multiple species across Australia is established. I am absolutely pumped by that. Yes! 👉🏽 '... a legacy to future generations of high-quality #placemaking, maximising the value of environmental opportunities and minimising the inadvertent harm caused by short-term decision-making. We seek to align activities and funding at a #place-based scale to achieve stronger and more sustained outcomes, particularly where it can be shown that these create public value in ways that are more efficient and effective than would be achieved by acting alone.'
The interplay of heritage and nature 👏 to Lord Mendoza, Simon Thurley and Tony Juniper for this powerful new joint statement on integrating the management of the natural and historic environment https://lnkd.in/e-9cyJDJ. Nature includes landscape, historic features and cultural connections as well as habitats, species and geology. The interplay is complex and the chairs of Historic England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Natural England underline that heritage has a role in nature recovery, and indeed natural environment management can help protect and conserve heritage and culture. Each place has many stories and interests and by collaborating we can achieve better places for wildlife, heritage and most importantly people.

This impressive image of Greater São Paulo and Baixada Santista at night highlights the vastness and complexity of these metropolitan regions, by the astronaut #DonPettit. The lights shine brightly, revealing the bustling urban life that never stops. Greater São Paulo has an approximate radius of 70 km, encompassing a densely populated area full of economic and cultural activities. In contrast, Baixada Santista, an important coastal region, connects several cities along its coast. An interesting point is the distance between Prefeitura Municipal de Guarujá and Itanhaém, two important cities in Baixada Santista. Approximately 75 km separate them, with Guarujá to the north and Itanhaém to the south, both contributing to the economic and tourist diversity of the region. When observing this image, I can't help but draw an analogy to the "Pale Blue Dot" mentioned in my master's defense. Just as Carl Sagan reminds us of our smallness in the vast cosmos, this image makes us reflect on the density and interconnectedness of our lives on a more human scale. Each point of light represents lives, stories, and dreams, contributing to the complex fabric of our society. Just as the "Pale Blue Dot" inspires us to be humble and take care of our planet, this nighttime vision reminds us of the importance of creating more sustainable and equitable cities. Together, we can transform these points of light into a brighter future for everyone. #Urbanism #Sustainability #Innovation #PaleBlueDot #GreaterSP #BaixadaSantista #SmartCity https://lnkd.in/dwURcR95
