On the 23th of July 2024 Innovest Advisory attended an incredibly insightful event hosted by Dr Rufaro Nyakatawa-Mucheka, PhD, CFP®, MBA, TEP from Jersey Finance in partnership with Mellville Douglas. The event featured an engaging panel led by Dr Rufaro and leaders from different areas within the impact ecosystem, unpacking the topic “Responsible Investing and its Impact on Africa”. Some of our favourite take-aways from the event included Tax perspectives by Andrew Wellsted from OWP Partners who shared his view that tax structures have potential to incentivise greater capital flows into impact investments on the continent, and that Africa ought to leverage this opportunity especially where green infrastructure development is concerned. We also enjoyed hearing Diane Laas from Mellville Douglas speak about the tailwinds the global impact investment landscape is starting to experience as a result of the wealth transfer currently happening within the High Networth Individual space. Through their Global Impact Investment Fund, they are noting that Millenials HNI’s have a strong desire to invest their wealth impactfully, a trend which will likely result in more HNI capital being directed towards impact opportunities. The event ended on an encouraging note with the panel and the audience agreeing “We are the first generation to experience the effects of climate change, and the last generation who have the opportunity to do something about it!” Congratulations to Dr Rufaro and the Jersey Finance team for hosting such a consequential conversation for the impact investment ecosystem! #impactinvesting #Africa #investinAfrica #sustainability #impactadvisory #innovestadvisory #jerseyfinance

🌍 Excited to announce our upcoming online event! Join our online event on Tuesday July 30th at 17h30 (GMT+2) in partnership with Chemonics International! The event will convene global stakeholders from the institutional investor community to discuss investment challenges and opportunities in emerging and frontier markets, with a special focus on refining strategies for investing in Africa. For decades, governments and development institutions have been pivotal investors in Africa, working to close the sustainable development funding gap. However, to achieve the SDGs by 2030, Africa requires an additional $194 billion in annual investment, according to OECD estimates. Understanding how large-scale institutional investors can increase their allocations to Africa and other emerging economies is crucial in bridging this funding gap. 🔍 Our event will feature insights from prominent speakers including Peter Johnson from Developing World Markets Inc., Casey Family Programs, and NYC Board of Education Retirement System (BERS). They will share impactful case studies and journeys in investment, highlighting successful strategies in navigating challenges. 🗣️ Moderated by Papa Madiaw Ndiaye, CEO of AFIG FUNDS and Chairman of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, the event will foster open discussions among attendees on barriers to institutional investments in Africa and actionable solutions. 📅 Save the date and join us to explore how institutional investors can drive positive impact while fulfilling their fiduciary responsibilities. Let's work together towards achieving the Global Goals! Click to register https://lnkd.in/d9qk5kPX #InstitutionalInvestors #EmergingMarkets #AfricaInvestment #GlobalGoals #ImpactInvesting

In the spirit of #flashbackfriday, the Innovest Team is flashing back to one of our favourite panel discussions this year at the annual ESG and Sustainability Conference. Our Africa Lead, Bakang Tshepo Moetse had the honour of facilitating a conversation titled “Scaling Impact Investments in Africa” between key players within the impact investing ecosystem from the DEG, Phatisa, Acre Impact Capital, Discala Holdings and Kendal:IP. After kicking off on a positive note by expressing a shared optimism about the abundant opportunity to leverage investment capital for the creation of impact at scale in Africa, the panellists identified key challenges impeding Africa’s ability to scale its impact investment sector. As highlighted in this clip, the conversation came to an encouraging end by highlighting key strategies that can be employed to achieve the desired level of growth in the sector, specifically naming innovative finance instruments technical assistance, impact measurement and collaboration as critical. A final golden nugget the panellists jointly championed was the fact that within all partnerships established in support of scaling impact investments, Africa needs the latitude to define its sustainable development agenda in a manner that serves African people and preserves the inherently African value system of Ubuntu. Our question for you this Friday: What are your thoughts on how Africa can accelerate the growth of the Impact Investing sector to achieve positive social and environmental at scale? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
