This week we had the pleasure of hosting a group of visitors at one of our portfolio assets, a controlled environment glasshouse operated by Glass Pharms. The facility utilises surplus heat and power from a co-located Anaerobic Digestion plant to provide the glasshouse with renewable heat and electricity via private wires at a discounted rate compared to market prices. During the visit, delegates were given a tour of the facility by members of the FGEN and GlassPharms team, demonstrating the advanced technology of the glasshouse, its capability of growing a wide array of horticultural products and its strength as an asset within FGEN’s portfolio. If you would like to learn more about this exciting technology and how it fits within our diverse portfolio, you can do so by viewing the video below: https://lnkd.in/ejRAaAqV Alternatively, you can view the new presentation that was delivered during the visit here: https://lnkd.in/evdumD6i #FGEN #GlassPharms #controlledenvironment #alternativeinvestment #alternativeassets #environmentalinfrastructure

Recently, Edward Mountney, investment manager to FGEN, spoke with FT Adviser about the current environment of sustainable investment. The piece highlighted that despite the US’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and rolling back of over 100 environmental policies, investor sentiment remains strong. Ed stated that “The energy transition cannot be ignored. We see this as an opportunity to highlight that this is the stuff that makes sense from both a commercial and a sustainability perspective.” Meanwhile, last month, the UK formally submitted its Nationally Determined Contribution (#NDC) under the Paris Agreement, pledging to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 81% against 1990 levels by 2035. The new plan also officially signs the UK up to the COP28 commitments to triple renewable energy capacity and double annual energy efficiency improvements by 2030. #ICYMI last week the Climate Change Committee released their 7th Carbon Budget Report which called for a significant increase in renewable energy generation to meet surging energy demand, decarbonise the economy, lower energy prices for consumers and ensure energy security for the UK. With onshore wind expected to double capacity by 2040 and solar increasing to 82GW, the need for investment in environmental infrastructure remains as strong as ever. FGEN is proud to contribute to the ever-growing need for UK renewable energy through a diversified portfolio of environmental infrastructure that includes both wind and solar investments, as well as many others that provide attractive RPI-linked revenue streams for investors through a combination of government-backed incentives and long term offtake contracts. Recently, Charlie Wright, investment manager to FGEN, spoke with Investment & Pensions Europe (IPE) about the challenge of investing in Europe’s energy transition. The piece highlighted that Europe's energy landscape is undergoing a fundamental transformation, shaped by market forces and policy decisions. While the direction is clear, the path remains uncertain. For infrastructure investors, this shift presents significant opportunities to diversify and capitalise on the evolving market. As we have already seen through previous subsidies and high levels of investment, technologies such as wind and solar power “are now becoming increasingly economic and cost competitive to fossil fuels without that much support, if any.” This highlights the critical importance of renewable infrastructure investment, as we look forward to more technologies that could address the diverse energy needs of Europe and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. This week we announced our second divestment of the year being the sale of 100% of our portfolio of operational rooftop solar assets for a premium to NAV, further refining the portfolio. The rooftop portfolio, originally acquired by FGEN in 2015, was sold to AtmosClear Investments for a total consideration of £21.2 million and comprised of over 1,000 fully operational domestic rooftop, commercial rooftop and ground-mounted solar installations distributed across England, Scotland and Wales. Ed Warner, Chair of FGEN said: "We are pleased with this sales agreement which has provided us with substantial funds from a non-core, low yielding asset. Capital allocation remains a key priority for the Board and proceeds will be used to strengthen our balance sheet through a further reduction in debt."
