An exciting day for staff, stakeholders and partners of AMAATI, as we gathered to launch our New Fonio production line in collaboration with USAID West Africa Trade & Investment Hub. AMAATI partnered with USAID West Africa Trade and Investment Hub to work on a project “Fonio for nutrition and Export”. A matching grant purposefully used to engage and support rural women and men including the youth to participate in Fonio farming and other activities on the Fonio value chain. 7000+ farmers were engaged for 30 months, supported with inputs to farm Fonio. This resulted in high volumes of Fonio supplies indicating the need for AMAATI to match the grant by investing in increasing our capacity to absorb supplies from smallholder farmers. Through the investment we received from Kampani, AMAATI invested in a state of the art 10-ton Fonio production line to absorb the increasing supplies from smallholder farmers and increase our quality standards. This was part of our strategy to increase capacity and quality of our products for our customers to have a unique experience consuming DIM Fonio products both locally and internationally. The project ending this may 2024, was climaxed with the launch of the new 10 metric tons’ production line on May 29, 2024. We had participation from smallholder farmers, Chiefs, community members, government officials, and partners. This processing plant will serve 30,000+ smallholder farmers in the rural savannah zone of Ghana, ensuring food security, increasing employment among women and youth, reducing poverty, and ensuring families have nutrient dense food for nutrition security. Special thank you to Grace Lang-Deputy Mission Director for USAID Ghana, Charles Polet- Deputy Director West African Trade and Investment Hub, Tia Swain- communication specialist at the West African Trade and Investment Hub, Kofi Asare Anyemedu-private sector engagement specialist USAID Ghana. This program was graced by Naa Mahamadu Bawah –Paramount Chief of the Nanton Traditional Area, AMAATI Board Chairman- Chief Sintaro Mahama and other board members. This represents our continued commitment in creating sustainable communities through the use of Fonio which nourishes the land, people and society.
