Opportunities for Growth in Africa
About us
Under the Invest for Jobs brand, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has put together a package of measures to support German, European and African companies engaging in Africa. The Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition" – the official title – offers comprehensive advice, contacts and financial support through its implementing organisations to overcome investment barriers. The development objective is to work together with companies to create up to 100,000 good jobs and to improve working conditions in its eight African partner countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal and Tunisia. The Special Initiative is making a targeted contribution to shaping the socio-ecological transformation of the private sector in line with a just transition, and to creating more and better jobs for women.

🎉 Together with our partners, the UN-Habitat’s Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI) gGmbH and local companies in the e-mobility sector, we launched the “Boosting E-mobility Jobs in Africa” (BOOST) project at a kick-off event in Accra, #Ghana. The project aims to foster cleaner and more sustainable transport systems in Ghana, #Morocco and #Rwanda. 🔋 The BOOST project will provide structured training programmes for students and professionals in order to equip them with the skills needed in the growing #emobility sector. The courses will focus on battery technology, charging infrastructure, and #digital mobility services. 🚀 By developing the skills and capacity of the local workforce, 250 new good #jobs will be created for young people and women in Ghana’s e-mobility ecosystem. 🤝 We have recently signed a joint workplan with International Labour Organization to create decent #jobs in #Ghana's textile & apparel, shea, and SME sectors. 🎯 Most Ghanaians are working in the informal sector and many of them have neither received a vocational training nor do they benefit from social security. The new programme will therefore offer trainings on occupational health and safety, production and quality management. We’re looking forward to a fruitful cooperation! #InvestforJobs
Did you know that 90% of Ghanaians of working age are employed in the informal sector and often lack vocational training and social security? To address this, GIZ and the International Labour Organization have signed a joint workplan to create decent jobs in the textile & apparel, shea, and SME sectors. This cooperation includes training in occupational health and safety, production and quality management, and ILO’s Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) programme. The synergies created will boost productivity and the creation of decent jobs in these sectors. 🏗️ #BreakingGrounds, #BuildingDreams: The project “Female Talents in Construction” was launched on 24 April in Accra, #Ghana. 🧰 In collaboration with the Ghana TVET Service and private sector companies, we aim to address the under-representation of women in the #construction sector and to bridge the lack of practical experience between academia and industry. 🚀 250 young graduates, with a focus on women, will be equipped with industry-relevant skills for employment. They will participate in a training programme certified by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana), and at least 150 of them will be placed in good #jobs upon successful completion.
