Precious tiny preemies need your help. We’ve been reminded today, in a stark and heartbreaking way, just how desperately families of preemies in NICU need us to care. It’s a humbling feeling and we are driven to do all we can as quickly as we can. Sometimes the only thing standing between death and a chance at life is money. Money to pay for critical surgical procedures; Money to pay for essential medication; Money to cover the cost of oxygen so that every breath can count; Money to pay for hospital bills so that families can get better discharged; Money for every day essentials and so much more. Sometimes the amounts needed are mind blowing and seem impossible to raise, but we have faith and believe in the collective good and in big hearts for preemies. Whatever you can do, please do it for them…for tiny lives whose families have nowhere else to turn. You have no idea what how important your donation is to the preemie who receives it. Will you join us in supporting Rebecca and Adolf’s precious preemie as she battles hydrocephalus? Just over six weeks ago, we first reached out to introduce Rebecca and Adolf’s precious daughter and preemie warrior to you. We asked for your generosity and support with the first temporary shunt placement surgery for her. Since then, this brave little one has undergone two surgeries on the shunt placement. We’re thrilled to share that they were discharged from NICU 2.5 weeks ago, to another ward and remained on admission in the hospital until just yesterday. Thanks to your support, we were able to facilitate their discharge home and ensure that they are able to settle back into life outside of hospital in the days ahead. However, the journey isn’t over yet. Baby’s next milestone is reaching a weight of 2kg to be able to undergo surgery for a permanent shunt. We are going to ensure that she will get the care she needs to reach that weight goal and remain healthy. For this next crucial procedure, anticipated post-surgical care expenses along with other medical related costs and outstanding amounts from previous procedures is approximately GHC30k. In total, we aim to raise at least GHC 35,000 to cover these expenses and have some left over for parental support to her parents to ensure this little fighter receives the ongoing care she deserves. Mum, Rebecca and dad, Adolf are loving parents who are committed to love, fiercely protect and fight for their tiny precious daughter. However, they really can’t do it all alone. About our NICU Connect visits last week. We never know what to expect on NICU Connect visits, but we do know that for each visit we make, we are meant to be there, and there is a reason why we came. There is a blessing in the interactions with preemie mothers and carers. Maybe an answer to a preemie mother’s prayer? Maybe a needed word or hug? Maybe the smallest item that was desperately needed in the care package given? Maybe just a break in the monotony of NICU life? Maybe a listening ear? Maybe we carried in hope and possibility? Whatever the reason, we take NICU visits seriously and they represent a wonderful privilege to be a part of the journeys of precious tiny lives.
