Integrating Energy generation technologies in an environmentally sustainable manner.
About us
Regional Center for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (RCEES) in the University of Energy and Natural Resources seeks to provide educational training to all stakeholders including graduate students (MSc/MPhil/PhD) on sustainable energy projects to bridge the skill gap. The Department of Energy and Environmental Engineering was established in 2012 with the aim of fully integrating various energy generating technologies and environmental issues to meet the changing demands of the energy industry particularly in Ghana and the West Africa sub-region. In this regard, more candidates will be trained by offering tailored postgraduate programs and short courses that address this skill gap by training more competent personnel in sustainable energy technologies. Key thematic research areas to be covered include includes but not limited to: • Research into the use of renewable energy, especially for the off-grid and island communities • Development of energy transformation strategies – transition from the current supply systems to renewable power generation systems • Strengthening the use of smart distributed technologies - Smart grid and smart distributed power generation systems, and energy efficiency. • Development of sustainable low-cost technologies for rural electrification • Environmental issues related to energy supply and demand, and sustainable development

Earlier this month, I was featured in a DW documentary about braindrain in Ghana and the imperative need as a nation to locally develop some of the critical technologies our economy heavily depends on. Of course, as a nation, we should not continue to rely on the global market for supply of critical technologies like Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS) on which our economy depends. This leaves us at the mercy of the exchange rate, continously pushing many farmers into extreme pointless and preventable poverty. This will reduce the cost and make SPIS accessible to more farmers. This is no clout! We're doing it 😊. We are democratizing access to the sun for irrigation, for our beloved and hardworking Ghanaian farmers. We're making SPIS solutions accessible to every farmer in Ghana. This is possible because it is more than possible regardless of how insurmountable it might seem, though we fail some several times. And I mean it, "If we all leave Ghana, who will develop her for us"? Yes we might have to travel to develop our skills, but we will always come back to develop and build up our Ghana 🇬🇭. A Special appreciation to the foundation vice chancellor Prof. Esi Awuah (PhD, FGhIE, FAAS) of UNIVERSITY OF ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES-UENR for nurturing a partriotic and a can-do spirit in me, certainly your labour was not in vain and to ACE - Regional Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (RCEES) for providing the financial support, morale, labs, and expertise, to conduct this very important research. I can never be grateful enough to the director, and assistant director of RCEES, Prof. Eric Ofosu, and Prof. Samuel Gyamfi for your enormous support, going out of your ways however possible to make this dream a reality. Oh that Ghana had more such patriots! Prof. Alex Akwasi, one such phenomenally brilliant mathematician! In less than an hour he had completely analyzed both my tokenization and cryptographic algorithms and made very important security improvements to it that completely escaped me, when I had spent weeks developing it 😄. I am incredibly glad to have met such wonderful and brilliant souls and spirits at UENR. Truly #UENR_IS_HOME. A special thank you to DW's superior journalist Maxwell Suuk for the crisper clear documentary. Guy you did it! I was so smitten by how you quickly grasped such complex and abstract engineering concepts. Truly, A new Africa arising! I am already optimistic for the future of Africa! Ghana b3y3 yie. 😊
