Last week, we participated in 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁’s important panel discussion about the tourism future of Greenland, together with representatives from 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘀, Air Greenland, and AAU Arctic. Topics discussed included economic goals and purpose of tourism. 🧭 With new flight routes opening up, the discussion focused on how we can manage the expected increase in visitors while keeping Greenland’s identity and sustainability at the heart of tourism. The day wrapped up with U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, Alan Levanthal, who spoke about the strong ties between Greenland and the U.S. – and how Greenland is closer to New York than San Francisco is! 🌎🚀 Exciting times ahead as we work together to create a future for tourism that benefits everyone. #GrowGreenland

CAPACITY ANALYSIS FOR ILULISSAT 📊 We can now present the second of three capacity analyses for the upcoming airport cities: Nuuk, Qaqortoq and 𝗜𝗹𝘂𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘁. These analyses aim to support responsible and strategic tourism development in Greenland. 🌍 With assistance from Avannaata Kommunia and the local tourism industry, we have assessed Ilulissat’s current capacity in three main categories: accommodation, dining, and tours/experiences. The analysis considers three potential growth scenarios – low, medium, and high – to forecast the accommodation needs over the next five years. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗹𝘂𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘁 ✈️ The analysis predicts a significant increase in flight passengers as the Ilulissat’s new airport opens in 2026. This growth will necessitate expanded capacity, especially in terms of accommodation and dining facilities. 🍽️ Ilulissat’s restaurants are very busy, and the industry is currently struggling to find enough space and workers. The city is in need of further investments in both accommodation and dining facilities. 🛳️ Ilulissat, the Greenlandic town with the highest number of tour providers per inhabitant—many of whom operate by boat—already faces high demand for docking space, a need that is expected to grow even further. First and foremost, the analysis highlights high demand at local dining venues and challenges in securing land and labor. Immediate investment in accommodation and dining facilities, along with workforce support, is essential to prevent bottlenecks. In a press release on the matter, Visit Greenland’s CEO, Anne Nivíka Grødem, urges stakeholders to use the analysis as a basis for decisions and investments in Greenland's tourism industry and notes that a similar capacity assessment in Qaqortoq is underway. 💡Read the full press release here: In KAL: https://lnkd.in/d9WiEHCz In DK: https://lnkd.in/dFzN46i7 #GrowGreenland

🌟 We are happy to share that our film 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝’𝐬 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 has won the 2nd prize at the this year's ART&TUR - International Tourism Film Festival. 🌟 This festival honors outstanding tourism films from around the world, and we’re thrilled that Greenland’s story was recognized on this global stage. 📹 ✨ Held in Lousã, Portugal, from October 22–25, the event brought together the best in tourism storytelling. Award or not, we are incredibly proud of our film and its strong message: That Greenland is best discovered through local guides and their local knowledge.💡 Rather than relying on tablets and artificial intelligence, we encourage you to deep dive into authentic encounters and let the warmth of our local communities redefine your idea of exploration. 🏔️🔍 👉 Watch our 2-minute video here: https://lnkd.in/d_C9HaVt #GrowGreenland

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 Greenland is entering an exciting time, where tourism will play a greater role in our economy and society in general. With new airports coming and increased interest in the country as a travel destination, staying informed and involved is more important than ever. 💡 To support this, we’re starting a national initiative to strengthen the dialogue about tourism and create a shared understanding of how tourism can benefit all of Greenland. Tourism affects many parts of our society – jobs, the economy, culture and everyday life. That is why it is important that we as citizens understand the value chains of tourism and are inspired to contribute to its development. 🌱 To make this more accessible, we are launching a new Nunarput Nuan Facebook page where everyone is invited to join the conversation on how we can collectively harness the potential of tourism. 📢 "In Visit Greenland, our core mission is to market Greenland as an attractive travel destination internationally, and we will continue to do so. However, we also see an important role in creating a forum for the entire population, where everyone can gain insight into tourism development and be inspired to take part in it," says Anne Nivíka Grødem, Director of Visit Greenland. We hope you will follow our new Facebook-page and share it with your network: https://lnkd.in/dMtaTzHH You can read more about the initiative here: 🇬🇱: https://lnkd.in/dx_p8szw 🇩🇰: https://lnkd.in/dAz46Z-Q #GrowGreenland

This year, the series of travel trade shows took place in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, where Greenland was presented as a travel destination along with six Nordic countries. 🧳 An added highlight was the recent announcement of a direct Newark (NY) to Nuuk route, bringing Greenland closer to the U.S. than ever before!
